Hi everyone, Yoshi is still running red after a bit of nice movement. I plan it increase back to 4.5 tonight. I was thinking, and I did leave the lantus pen out a few days ago unopened. Probably 10 hours or so. I just got the pen and I would hate to get a new one. Do you think the pen went bad? No cloudiness or floaties. I have radiator heat so it can get a bit warm in here. I just can’t figure out why he’s running so high after improving.
Insulin should be fine. Probably seeing a bit of wonkiness from the 4U a few cycles back. I agree with increasing to 4.5.
I suspect that the numbers are less than lovely due to glucose toxicity. If you're not seeing numbers in a good range and you aren't able to increase, it's likely that Yoshi is treating this high numbers as his new normal. Hopefully, getting him to an effective dose will get the numbers to move.
Hi Jennifer Glad you increased to 4.5 - I see he's still seeing red though Hope all is okay with your dad
One night for the pen out isn’t going to hurt it. The pens are designed to be left in pocketbooks , briefcases , etc for humans up to 28 days and still be effective. We sugar parents refrigerate them so they last up to 6 months since we are using much smaller doses than humans. Good luck with the new dose.
I know. I am super frustrated. I think I gave a couple fur shots in am the past couple of days. I had to miss his dental check up because of my dad. I rescheduled it for Thursday... I honestly don't know what is going on. Unless he bounced from a yellow a few days ago and fur shot and etc. I will see how he is tonight when I get home. I will be able to do a lot of testing thurs - sun. If there is no improvement I think we need a different insulin.
I also left the pen out AGAIN. like 8 hours this time. But I am assuming it is still ok. Everything I have researched said so.
It should still be fine Since Murphy is down to about 1/2 unit, and I just recently started a new pen, I will have an untouched pen of Levemir that expires at the end of January 2020. It's free to a good home
What helped me was to return the pen into the refrigerator BEFORE I gave the shot. Otherwise, I was very distracted.
I hope the increase kicks in soon and that you start to see better numbers! Hang in there...it takes time and in some cases much more insulin to see significant improvement....as has been said around here before, it takes what it takes to get them into better blood glucose numbers...
Thank you. I am just really bummed because he was responding and all of the sudden wasn't. I will be able to figure it out soon. I need to focus on him. I have a lot going on and I haven’t been as “on it.” He needs bloodwork if these numbers persist and a lot of other things and I’m just trying to take things day by day. He’s active and fine otherwise: not excessively drinking or peeing. so I think I am going to watch closely and do tests as needed
The fur shots, or suspected ones, will restart the cycle count. It can take six cycles to build the depot back up, been there done that too. Yes, it’s frustrating. Right now the issue is the dose, not the insulin. Cats need however much insulin they need and ECID.
