Soo... she may have eaten some of her midnight snack before the amps as all of the food was gone. I left her with breakfast intending to feed her after church which would have been +5 but I found the dehydrated chicken bag treat on the floor from the bureau so not sure if she stole some. Ugh! Anyway, it looks like I should be doing an increase to .75 units tomorrow morning, correct? I have to work though but from her history, she usually runs on the higher side after I increase so I’m assuming she should be fine. Lmk your thought, please! Thanks!!

Correct - the new dose would be -0.75u

Are you still feeding Charlotte the Purina CN? Have you looked at the ingredients? It's mostly by-products. You could get a much higher quality food for what you're spending on CN.

So I feed her both the CN in one dish and the ff pate in another- about a heaping teaspoon of each. She will go between the two or sometimes only eat the ff pate. I use the CN bc it had a slightly higher carb content than ff. She seems to like the liver, turkey and salmon type foods. Not so big on beef. I know I need to investigate other foods at some point.
I am getting a little concerned about glucose toxicity however bc she hasn’t only hit the blues and greens a few times. She is still way under her calculated dose based on weight that’s why I was wondering .75 vs 1 unit. She ranges between 10.8-11.2. Her start weight in August was 12.4#.

Don't get hung up on the calculated dose weight. It's what's used to set the initial dose. It's not to tell you that's the max dose. (I'm presuming you mean the formula: 0.25 x ideal weight in kilograms?)

Here's my read -- and you could be right about glucose toxicity but I'll come back to that. I think SLGS was too liberal for Charlotte's needs. You were doing everything right but she kept earning dose reductions and her dose reductions weren't giving her the amount of insulin her body really needed. At the point you started micro-dosing, her numbers started to be iover 200. The pain in the neck is that sometimes when the dose gets lower than where it was previously, you may need to get to a higher dose than before to get the same results. I also think that you were wise to shift to TR since you reduce at a lower BG point.

I think it's a coin toss as to whether there's glucose toxicity or just not enough insulin. Fundamentally, it really doesn't matter. You still need to up the dose. there may be some bounciness due to glucose toxicity but that happens for most kitties even without glucose toxicity. I tend to think the term "glucose toxicity" is scarier than what it is. You just need to get to a dose that gets Charlotte past the boulder in the road.

Let me preface this by saying the best food for your cat is what your cat will eat. I think the majority of people here use Fancy Feast or Friskies.

I fed both Gabby and Gizmo the same food. What was good for my diabetic was good for my civvie. At the time, one of the best foods around was Wellness. They were fed pate style chicken or turkey. Fast forward.... Gizmo was diagnosed with IBD. I thought I was doing a good thing by sticking with poultry. Gabby was both gluten intolerant and couldn't tolerate beef. I didn't want to put fish in the mix because of concerns about mercury. It turned out that poultry is a common allergen and in all likelihood, contributed to Gizmo developing IBD.

I switched them to a raw diet at one point because Fancy Feast has fish in some the poultry products. When I found Wellness, I gave up on raw. With Gizmo needing to be on novel proteins, I'm back to raw that I supplement with some ZiwiPeak. I like the ZiwiPeak because it has no gums or carageenan, both of which have been associated with IBD.

So that's the long answer to your question. I also used Tiki Cat products which they liked. I can't remember if they liked Weruva.

Ok, thanks!! I have used tiki and Weruva to get their appetites piqued but not the wellness. I will investigate the latter. I am not quite sure what 0 carbs would do with her numbers. I don’t want to change too many things in this equation at the moment. :woot: I won’t know which caused the changes- zero carbs or more insulin! I see from another comment elsewhere that you’re in Ohio. My daughter is at franciscan university in steubenville! Small world :).

Wellness is high in fat and thus, high in calories. Just an fyi, some cats do better with a bit of carbs in their diet. I would agree with not changing too many things at once.

Your daughter is about 2.5 hrs due east!
