Yes, I think that's a good plan. You do want to wait a little longer to increase, because he has seen some green numbers on this dose-- it may be the right dose for him, and you just have to wait until he stops bouncing from the lower numbers (for him, greens and even blues probably look "low" right now).

So, let's see what he does in the next couple days!

I been reading about calipers worrying about dosage being the same Sandi made a sample syringe for us to go by so as to give the same amount everytime she explained how these syringes are not the same messed up in production . Is calipers a good idea or am i just getting to picky lol ? With these small dosage amounts i was worried about if im giving the same amount everytime ? I get my son to also look at what i see and we compare it to the sample syringe we make Everytime we reduce or increase .
Just wondering if thats throwing things off too ? Lol worried mommie ! Dnt want to mess this up !

Hmmm, I've never used calipers, but I know a lot of caregivers find them really helpful. Calipers, sample syringes-- whatever works! Consistency is the most important thing, especially down at these little doses (which unfortunately the syringe-makers don't usually pay attention to-- they're thinking in terms of human-sized insulin doses!).

How is Salem doing today? Still feeling good?

Yes eating good really good but still sleeping alot but hes acting great when hes walking around not hiding as much anymore think i got his ears feeling better . I saw somewhere about numbing the ears so not only did i put neosporene with pain relief but i used the aspercreme with lidocaine for numbing on his ears it seems to have worked . Im seeing him go to the litter box more so i know hes urinating but thank God hes not peeing as much as he did before he got sick he was going alot so much i had to change the whole box out ever other day . That alone should have warned me too about dehydration . Stupid me . Thanks ...

So far he is doing good. I hope he does good today . I fed him usually three times a day if theres food left i just let it sit there til he eats it all or the other cats eat it . Do you think when i do that he eats more making his sugar go up ? Maybe i shouldnt do that ? Once he finishes eating maybe i should take it up? To keep his sugar from going up he takes awhile for hes sugar to go up but when it does it goes high even on the LC food ? Thats when hes sugar usually goes up in the afternoon after hes eaten all morning long off and on ? He eats the LC food all the time unless hes sugar gets too low .

Hi Tina :) You are doing an awesome job with Salem...he is a beauty !!! I'm studying on calipers too and would be glad to share what I learn . Sometimes a lot comes at us all at once and we need to take it issue at a time, day by day . Bless you for all you are doing for Salem ❤️ And it sounds like Salem is a grazer like Elmo ...I just let him nibble when he's hungry as that's how he's been all his life .

Most diabetics do well with multiple small meals throughout the day, so grazing is good. And especially after DKA, eating is always a good thing! I wouldn't worry about the LC causing BG increases-- maybe a little, but it's a natural part of the process of, well, eating. The higher numbers in the day are probably more due to other factors (bouncing from previous lows, insulin fading, etc.). Overall, he's looking pretty good!

Please do not use aspercreme.

Common ingredients in over-the-counter pain creams that are toxic to cats are:

  • Camphor- This ingredient is mildly to moderately toxic to cats and dogs. It is found in Bengay, Carmex, Tiger Balm, Vicks VapoRub, Campho-Phenique and other arthritis pain creams.
  • Salicylates- Most pain-relief creams contain salicylates, which is basically aspirin. Both dogs and cats are moderately to severely sensitive to this substance, but it is particularly dangerous to cats. This is the active ingredient in Aspercreme, Bengay, HEET, Icy Hot, etc. The oil of wintergreen also has a high concentration of salicylates.

Oh so glad you told me only used once! Thank God ! Very little too. Strange active ingredient the vet had me give my kitty once for fever a half of baby aspirn ! Thanks so much !!! I could have killed my salem ! Oh my ? Not good ...i know im scared of the flea things you get i seen on you tube how it intoxicated the kitten while the children watched and cried im like please take the children away take the kitten to the vet whats wrong with you people letting them watch him die so sad

Oh, Tina, I am a total amazon geek !!!! I call it my Mall :p It is a Godsend especially living in a small town as we do ....love my Amazon :woot:

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby these are great calipers; lots of us on the forum use them because they are lightweight and accurate.

I've used mine for quite some time and they're very helpful in getting the same dose every time, regardless of the marks on the syringe.
