? !Help! with Mimi PMPS 105, ... what to do

ok. I was just answering your question about her being flat.

Be sure you feed a few tsp of the highest low carb food you have. You need to test at +1 and +2,

While you are feeding, I will answer your other questions.

Mimi’s SS looks like many of the SSs here. Take time to look in other condos and look at other cats’ SSs. She does not look to me like an example of a cat that is doing what Dr. Lisa described.

Here is a SS that is exactly what Dr. Lisa described:
Scooter’s SS
He was on dry and canned food. Look at his 2014 SS; his last day of dry was 4/28/2014.

Many of our cats have not only had cycles of normal numbers but weeks and months. Look at Sienne’s Gabby’ SS and my Gracie’s SS. And here is a perfect example:
China’s SS

China was tightly regulated for years in normal numbers and never went into remission. I’m not saying Mimi won’t but I’m trying to show you there are cats that are in all normal numbers and still need insulin. Chris tried to take her off insulin and it didn’t work.

Ok I will start looking at others- thanks! I mean, I did have Mimi on LC wet food for YEARS and she still got diabetes, so maybe its in the cards for her- maybe its more like type 1?

There is no type 1 in cats. Sometimes we don’t know why our kitties become diabetic but it could be chronic, very low grade pancreatitis that we are not aware of.

Please be sure and post a +1 BG here in her condo, ok?

ok I will
she might have issues with her Pancreas... She might have always had issues with it actually because when I first brought her to the holistic vet here, I told her how she's always had dandruff (as long as i can remember) and she said " her dandruff is greasy. In chinese medicine when we see that, its usually a sign of stress in the pancreas"

so it appears Scooter switched to canned and almost immediately went into remission.. unbelievable! why did his dad keep him on high carb kibble?? it looks like he was OTJ for like what, a month and then it came back?

She’s being so patient.. I love her so much

Linda had more than one cat and had difficulty feeding separate meals but finally bit the bullet and stopped dry food. His blips into high numbers were from stealing kibble. He was in remission for a year before he passed away. His SS is also a good example of “once a diabetic, always a diabetic”. Any contraband food at all, and his BG shot up.

Just wondering- since the insulin doesn’t kick in for 2 hours - would getting a +1 be effective or should I wait till +2
I hate taking her blood- and she’s really getting annoyed at me because I never get the amount of blood I need on the first prick. It’s stressing her out and I know that can make her sick all on its own. I ordered more test strips for freestyle lite- I’m going back to that one, the Relion requires too much damn blood and the freestyle was super easy- I barely needed blood. She’s also getting hard spots on her ears where I prick..

Well I am glad I don’t even own kibble! My other cat never cared for it- the only thing he loves munching on is a leaf of spinach, lol.
I let him eat it because he scoots his butt a lot and the vet said it’s because he’s not making soft enough stools

It’s a issue many members have where other cats are solely dry food eaters.

Are you free handing? Warming her ear? Using a bit larger lancet right now like 28g? Making sure the bevel is up? Alternating the poke site? Using Neosoorin with pain relief? I always had a cool, wet baby wash cloth handy so as soon as the poke was done, I held it on Gracie’s ear to cool it and stop the bleeding. I gave her Arnica to prevent brushing and Ledum for pokes.

I have a lancing device- I have the freestyle 29 g ones, but saw the 31 g relion brand and thought the thinner gauge would be less painful? I do warm the ear by rubbing it with my fingers- I also heat a rice pack in the microwave- that has helped.

Excellent. Thank you. You’ll still need to get a +2. If you normally feed her at +1, it’s fine to give her LC.

Christie and Bron will be in to stay with you all and I’m headed to bed.

Great job shooting tonight. Remember you can back her shot time up by 30 mins a day so you can shoot 1/2 hour earlier tomorrow morning or 15 mins early in the morning and 15 early at night. I always thought shooting 30 mins early once a day was easiest.

Good luck tonight and hope you all sleep well.

You might want to try freehanding with the 29g.

Im falling dead asleep right now... Im so exhausted..
Coffee time!

so the increase was good then- it meant her food spiked her enough?
I don't feed her at +1, I usually do at +2 or 3. thanks again for your help!

Mimis mom has to also make sure she stays healthy, otherwise who will take care of Mimi. I have sleep issues as it is, I try not to mess it up too much.

I just picked up the polysporin with pain relief tonight and used it and I definitely see a difference in Freckles' reaction. Also, thanks to Marje's advice, I started free handing with the lancet instead of using the lancing device - which also made a huge difference - you don't have to push the lancet device down on the ear. All of Marje's suggestions have been very helpful and it's like I'm working with a different cat now. At the vet's office it took 4 of them every time to test when they did a glucose curve the very first time. Now at home, Freckles jumps up on the counter, gets rubs and loves, and was even purring tonight when I tested her. They definitely read your energy. If you are stressed out about it, they will as well. If you look at is a "no big deal" they are likely to follow suit - just like a kid!

so free handing it meaning I just take the needle and poke right in- I tried that and she flinched every time I did- I don't think I have gauge as to how hard to. Vets need to get an entire semester on diabetes! I was fine actually when I was using a meter that took .3 and now Im doing one that does .5 and I didn't think that could be a difference but it is! so you put the polysporin on it before you shoot? what about neosporin- I have that- but it does have two additional antibiotics.

Im so tired my eyes are crossing..

You want to be quick and don’t hit the vein. That will hurt and it will bleed like crazy. Have you seen these Testing and Shooting Tips?
