Hi Tina,
His numbers are actually rising, with that 109 at +9 feed as you normally would at +10.
Do you think you could check him a little before his normal shot time say at +11.5?

Try and catch a nap.
I am in Spain, so it's morning for me, I was watching last night.
BTW here is the link for yesterdays posts on the lantus forum, we like to include that so we can look back through whats gone on for the kitty, it helps others who might not have been around yesterday , quickly and easily catch up with Salems history before giving advice.

OK one other thing when you get that +11 in the morning, put that here. Update the title and respond here.
We only have one post per day, this will be your thread for Salem on 11/4 OK.

It's important that you do this so you get all the help in one place, otherwise it gets very confusing for everyone, including you.
:)

Ok got you oh so much to learn but i will for salems
Sake ! Thanks !

Tina I addedthat biright green line at the top of your spreadsheet with the actual clock times on it in our tmezone. Note that we adjusted your shot time, and then switched back for the end of daylight sa vings time,it is correct again. Soall you have to do is look at that, no math needed.

Text Is how my family gets in touch if there is an emergency. texts will always wake me, andI don’t get up until 4 hours from now when it is time for Whispy’s shot. You are learning all of the methods for posting normally ,and you also watched me go through the entire protocol for a 911. Better to just follow those - as you can see, you have people from two different continents that are in their day Or early evening that are able to help you. That’s the beauty of this board.

I haven’t looked at your SS but I may peek at it in a few hours You are doing great and are in excellent hands with Gill and Bron.

I hope you and Salem have a great day :bighug:

she does appear to be on the rise, but not too high.
Can you make sure you feed, shoot 1.25u and then grab a test no later than +2

If she starts to drop again today we need to make sure we catch it early.

I don't understand Tina.
I thought AMPS was 2 hours ago when you posted that 208. Did you not Shoot then?

Have you just tested? What did you get?

Is the numbers too low too soon or is that what we want to see now that we are on our what 2 cycle of 1.25 units . Im thinking this way cause im not use to seeing those low numbers so soon in the first 12 it worries me is it going to go to low too soon and we will have to keep an eye in it this soon in the day im use to seeing those low numbers in the pmps ? Or will it be stable throughout the day until he eats i know it will go up .

OK I see that you just got a 121 at +2.
That is quite a drop, do you think you can give him some food now, a couple of teaspoons of her normal food now. and test in 45min which will be around +3 for you.

The drop in numbers you have just seen, does indicate that this is most likely to be an active cycle, this does not mean that he will go too low, but we need to watch him as you may need to feed him to stop the numbers getting too low.

Is he feeling and eating well this morning?

Is your name George and your cat Gill or the other way around cat George ? he looks like salems sister very cute tuxedo cat bellas been through shock when she was a kitten it took some time to get her to come to me cause she does not trust anyone her first owner did not fix his cats they multiplied he shot his kittens makes me so mad i told him thats why she does not trust anyone she seen her brothers and sisters get blown to pieces you ought to be ashamed of yourself is what i told him i should have reported him but since i had to work with him i did not i wish i did it is uncalled for

I'm Gill:), cat is George:cat: he's an old boy 19-20yrs maybe, a rescue, very shy at first he's been with us 13 years now.
Hope salem doesn't hide for his next test.

Me too . Hes feeling much better hes running and playing again im so glad hes being a silly cat since hes been home he sleeps with me again lol guess he needs comforting ! My son loves all the cats i have three but the white cat is his baby i brought him home from work he was a kitten he was shaking and very skinny i did not need another cat but i could not let him starve and get run over so i brought him home . Hes salems buddy

OK did you give some more of her regular food after the test?
If you didn't, give him some more food now.

Test again at +4

At his mext 12 im dropping to .75unit
I would advise against doing that in light of him just recovering from DKA.
He has not earned a reduction and is actually in great numbers.
Reducing the insulin when he still needs it could see a return to ketones and DKA in a bat of an eye.

One of the key ingredients to developing DKA is not enough insulin.
So far this dose of 1.25u is looking like a very good dose for Salem.

I agree completely with Gill, you don't want to drop insulin too much just after a DKA-- Salem could end up right back where he was in the hospital.

He is in very safe numbers right now.

I think 1.25 units is still too much for salem ?
No I don't believe it is.
I know you are probably looking at last nights numbers and thinking this.

Let me try and explain why.

When you give lantus, part of the dose stays in 'storage' and slow releases, you may have seen us refer to this as the depot. The size of the depot is dependent on the size of the dose. So when you take a reduction, like you did the other night, you won't see the complete effect of the reduction for a good few cycles later. This is because you still have the depot of the larger dose influencing those numbers. So last nights numbers which were just two cycles after the reduction were greatly influenced by the depot of the 1.5u. As the depot reduces in size to compensate for the new dose of 1.25u we will see what truly this dose will do for Salem.
At the moment he is spending a good deal of time in healthy, safe numbers, and we are being a bit cautious with the testing because he's just come out of hospital. I am not worried about how low he is, given his history high numbers would worry me more.

Hope that makes sense to you.

Oh and yes sandi explained the reserve to me. Thanks for keeping me straight lol
Can anyone explain why he drops like this ? One day he is ok on his numbers just surfing then later he is dropping i know cause the 1.50 must be coming in effect (for lost of words )diabetes is weird and complicated these numbers are too close to the dangerous zone if i had to work salem would be dying

If you are giving him dry kibble, even just a little bit from time to time, that can bump the numbers up significantly (most kibble is very high in carbs and not good for a diabetic cat) and then when it wears of they come back down. I would ditch the kibble, and if you do find you have to use it, because he won't eat for example, do.
How often have you been using it.

I don't see him as dropping dramatically today. He's been having a reasonable cycle so far.
Insulin is a hormone not a drug so a lot of other factors can affect the overall action. Additionally absorption rates can vary from one shot to another.

Only s few bits that night he sugar went down he doesnt like dry food he only eats a little when he sees the other cats eat it they love it he loves the wet food

Oh yes but hes only gotten it from them when yall asked me to get his sugar up never do i give him dry food anymore . I only tried it to get his sugar up

Ok i guess im not clear enough . Salem does not eat dry kibble he has only got a few bits when hes sugar went down only to get his numbers up . I do not give salem dry food i was told to get his sugar up since we had a little trouble getting it up this morning i gave him a few pieces . Understand lol
Sorry for the confusion

I know dry food is high in carbs i stopped dry food as soon as i found out he was diabetic . But this morning i understood from you to give him his regular food i thought you meant hes high carb food so we could get his numbers up . Since the high carb food was not helping his sugar to go up very much i throwed in some kibble dry food a few bits to help bring his sugar up .

Hi Tina,
was out for a bit, had to go walk the dogs, feed them, the cats and me.
Thanks for clarifying about the dry food.

Did you get any other tests after +4? Just wondering how Salem is doing.
