Hi everyone, I’ve been off for a while because my dad is in the hospital. I took my cats to my moms house (an hour away). Yoshi got into dry food here a couple days ago.

I just tested at +11 and he’s 188. I fed a bit cuz he was hungry. I’m about to Test am Ps. If under 200 should I shoot?

Wow, Yoshi!

Let's see where he is at pre-shot. How much did you feed him? We'll have to take that into account when deciding. Are you all set up to monitor today?

I'm sorry about your dad being in the hospital, that is very stressful. I hope he's recovering well.

Like 3 tablespoons lc Ff turkey about an hour ago.

Going to test now. I have to go to the hospital in a few hours. It’s not far so I can try to come back and test during the cycle but won’t be able to do much.

He’s 229

I got a new vial of lantus last night. My other one was pretty low

Hmmm, interesting. Too soon to really conclude anything, though, could just be a coincidence.

I know it'll be a pain to be running back and forth from the hospital, but if you know you can test at least a couple times during the day, I think you could shoot. The bump up to 229 is likely partly a food bump, but at least it doesn't look like he's in the middle of a dive. If you can test at +2 or +3 before going back to the hospital, and at least once in the middle of the cycle, you should be able to keep him out of trouble.

If he shows some major action when you test before going back, you have the option of trying to abort the cycle by carbing him up (heck, he already knows where to find the kibble, he can probably do it himself!).

Still shoot 4.25? I feel like he earned a reduction last night and I missed it? He was ravenous around +6 but I just fed him I was half asleep

Well, technically, if we don't see it, we shouldn't assume that it happened, so his dose is still 4.25.

Are you sure that you're going to be able to test him at least once in the middle of the day today?

Thank you for your help. I will keep you posted. I’ll do a +3 and then I have to go see my dad. Will see what +3 looks like then will do +6 or 6.5

OK. If we're lucky, he'll bounce all day from whatever happened last night and you can concentrate on your dad.

How old was the old vial (pen?)? Did you start it from new, or was it from a vet and possibly partially used?

It was about a month old. I got it straight from the pharmacy.

Huh. OK, well, may just have been a coincidence that Yoshi decided to take some action on the new pen. I suppose it's always possible that the pharmacy or their shipper mis-handled the insulin, but it's pretty rare, so let's assume for now that Yoshi just decided to mix things up a bit!
