Yesterday’s condo above.

Blaze’s amps is 409, seems he’s bouncing from last night. I was hoping for more help last night about if I should increase the dose this morning or not but got answers when I was still asleep and am a little confused by the responses I got. I’m off work today through Sunday so am wondering if I should give the increase this morning? I was told to wait until tonight, should I wait until tonight to go up to 1.5? Or give it now? Please help!!

I couldn’t hold off any longer so I decided to give Blaze the dose increase this morning to 1.5U, since I’m off work. I was told to wait until tonight but I think @Sue and Luci @Gill & George assumed I work today and it would be safe to wait until tonight, but since I’m off work today, I would rather increase this morning. He will most likely be bouncing this day time cycle anyways and possibly more active tonight.
I hope this wasn’t a mistake but I don’t seem to get responses until hours after my post so I had to make a quick decision this morning, I hope it’s okay.

Blaze is quite a handsome tuxedo boy. I'm only into this 3 months so I don't give dose advice, but I hope the increase takes a good hold and starts to bring his numbers down.

Thank you Suzanne! I’m in the same boat as you, three months in so still asking for lots of advice! This is our first week on TR also, so I’m still trying to figure it out!

What is Blaze playing at??
Could be NDW or the high before the low??
Is she OK? all 5 p's in place? (pooping peeing playing preening purring)

There's nothing suspicious in the numbers last night that would suggest she went too low and is bouncing....

Awww, Sarah, I’m sorry you were left with no response this morning. I read yesterday’s condo and, here’s the weird thing, I didn’t receive the notification last night. I even checked the board before I went to bed. I did receive this morning’s; I’m on West Coast time but am enjoying retirement so wake up when I do :)

You did a great job increasing. When I read back through the posts yesterday, the concern was more if you’d be there to test today since Blaze can drop after an increase. Once I get my own cats settled this morning, I’d like to look back on her SS at those increases and see if there is a pattern that will help going forward.

Good luck with the increase.

Happy belated 30th birthday!!! I hope it was amazing.

He’s great! Currently asking for head scritches from me, was just sitting in the window bird watching and now he’s running around the house! All the P’s in place. Blaze seems to bounce EVERY TIME he gets into blue and green numbers but I’ve not encountered a +1 in the 500’s. Weird!

ETA: +2 is in 20 minutes so we’ll see what he’s doing!

No worries at all Marje! Thank you for responding today! I’m on west coast time too but with my work schedule Monday through Thursday, we’re on a 6:30am/pm schedule so even on my days off, I’m up at 6:30am:woot:

I felt comfortable increasing this morning since I’m off today through Sunday, I think I confused others helping me that today was a work day, that’s why I went ahead and increased this morning. I just wanted some guidance because I’m unsure of when to increase on TR. He has had some nice numbers on the 1.25U, but his bounces in between make it confusing for me. Hopefully this 1.5U works for Mr. Blaze!
I look forward to hearing from you after you take a lot at Blaze’s SS! Thanks so much Marje! :)

Guess he was on his way up when you shot.
It does seem that after a few hours in green or blue he likes to get dramatic. Perhaps he just celebrated to much for your birthday, and had some secret birthday cake stashed away which he scoffed last night:D

Great to here that he looks so handsome in his pic, give him a scritch from me.

He really likes to keep me on my toes! I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays higher during the day today and MAYBE gets lower tonight. I guess we’ll see!

Thank you! I like to tell him he could be a model :joyful:

Here’s what I’m seeing on his SS regarding those drops when he first gets a dose increase (he didn’t do it every time).

For all but one, you were doing SLGS and had to reduce when he dropped below 90 even though he was starting to look good on the dose. The reduction failed so you took him back up and he picked up where he left off once he got that little bit of extra insulin. I’m specifically looking at 10/3 - 10/7.

Why did he do it on the second cycle of 1.25u when you had just switched to TR? I don’t know. He wasn’t clearing a bounce which is often what happens. Sometimes the bounce takes a bit longer than six cycles to clear and the CG raises the dose just as it does so numbers drop. That didn’t happen here. I have seen a couple of cats take ten cycles to clear the bounce. Blaze wasn’t bouncing; he just decided to pfizzle on the 1u dose.

This occurrence is not rare. I’ve seen it happen in many cats including my own. It’s not uncommon for them to drop with the first or second shot of a new dose and then either do ok or end up still needing an increase. Sometimes, it’s even enough to give them a kick in the pants and numbers really start to improve.

Insofar as when to increase with TR, this post might help you some. If you aren’t seeing blue or lower nadirs in the first six cycles, increase. If you are, hold the dose ten cycles and see where the nadirs are. If you see no green, increase. And always....ask for opinions if you aren’t sure.

He’s bouncing hard today because he took a pretty steep dive last night. I’m glad you will be home to monitor this weekend. If, by +2/+3 he’s still hanging out in ugly numbers, maybe you should treat yourself to a belated birthday mani/pedi or other treat. :)

Do you think I did the right thing by increasing his dose this morning then? Even though we saw some blue and green nadirs on the 1.25U? He was on that dose for 10 cycles.

+2 was still high so I left the house to go to the DMV to renew my drivers license. I’m heading back home after to see where he’s at, if he’s still high then, I will give him a poke break.

Yes, I would have increased. He had room for one and even if he’s not at this dose long, perhaps it will be a nudge he needs.

Hi Sarah! Well, I'm just catching up now! 5 p.m. and I've finally finished with my work - well at least as finished as I'm going to be for this week. Another disaster at work today to start things off...but I think we're back on the rails now :)

I'm sorry I also assumed that you were working today and you were right to increase this morning. I think he needs it too!

One suggestion - you know how some people have comments in the top of their spread sheets about what kind of insulin the cat is on, food, schedules, etc. I was wondering how you'd feel about putting your work schedule up there too? Just a thought - working outside the home from 8-5 M-T or whatever...visit at lunch when you can...sorta thing ... might be helpful for us old folks (that's me)...who can't remember from one day to the next our own schedules, much less that of others.

I apologize on missing that...you probably said that somewhere along the way...

This is just a suggestion and here's an example that I find helpful:

you can get as creative as you desire...or not so much...

Thanks and I hope you're having a great birthday weekend!:bighug::bighug: I think you should celebrate all month long myself! And Luci has eyes for Blaze...she loves those kitties that look like her with their formal attire:kiss:

Hey Sue! Hopefully you can relax a bit this weekend now that you’re all done with work!

As for adding my work schedule to my SS, that’s a great idea! Thank you for suggesting that, I will definitely do that.

As for my birthday, I agree with celebrating birthdays all month long and plan on doing so!:joyful:

And Blaze has eyes for Luci too, I think it’s a tuxedo thing ;)

Happy belated Sarah! My birthday is Monday so I’m also having a birthday weekend this weekend ;)

i think Blaze owes you some birthday safe low numbers :P

IMHO, I would suggest against this. For one, schedules change; sometimes short days become longer or vice-versa. But, even more of a concern is privacy. Anyone can join this board and there are scammers that do. For all the reasons I wouldn’t want my last name or email address out there publicly, I also wouldn’t want my schedule. It’s too easy for people to put 2&2 together.

I would keep my personal info like that personal :) It hasn’t hampered us in all these years in giving good dosing advice.:);)

I didn’t even think about this. You’re right. I will just remind people of my work schedule and when I’m home when needed.

@Sue and Luci - I hope not! But people post all sorts of photos (like of their house), mention a neighborhood, the school their kids attend, or you can Google someone and in some cases find an address. Finding out where someone lives isn't that hard especially if you have nefarious motives.

I think she just means it’s better to be safe than sorry, and not post everything, like when you’re out of the house on here is all. I’m sure it’s fine to put travel on your SS, we did that and everything was fine. But keeping it off Facebook is definitely a good idea.

Do they post their address on FB? Really?
Sienne is correct that people post so many clues on FB that it would not be difficult to locate them. There are a lot of online “resources” where you only need a name, pay a fee, and all sorts of personal info is revealed.

It isn’t worth it and you might even be surprised to know that many members here do not use their real names to protect their privacy. It’s better to be cautious.
