Need dosing help for upcoming trip please!

Hi! Can anyone please check my cat’s spreadsheet and give me some advice as to what his safe dose would be while we go on a three-day trip? We're using Lantus and we leave the day after tomorrow. We keep having to reduce his dose so I’m not sure what even is a “safe” dose for while we’re gone - is it possible that he’s heading towards remission? While we’re gone there won’t be anyone who would be able to test him because he resists so much no matter what (he’s okay with injections being administered by others but he only lets us test and no one else) so this is a really big problem since it’s not that safe and I would be way too worried during the trip without knowing his numbers. Do you think we should get him off the insulin for the time we’re gone (and test him as soon as we get back)? Or should we have someone just give him a really small dose (like 0.1U) without testing? But what if that dose suddenly becomes too high for him and we won’t even know until it’s too late? Lately his numbers would go way down already at +1.5 and +2 and hadn’t we tested frequently it could have been very dangerous for him. I’m really worried we would mess up his numbers but I’m even more worried about a possible hypo while we’re gone so I’m not exactly sure what to do, if I had to cancel the trip I would but I’m still going to have to pay a lot since I can’t get a full refund so I hope it won’t come to that :( (Oh also I use the world template, I’m not sure if it’s like that for others too but for me it always goes straight to the US template when I open his spreadsheet regardless of that so in order to see all of his numbers you need to click on the world one).

Tagging @Sienne and Gabby (GA) whose kitty Gabby similarly wouldn't let others test when she went away.

A couple questions first. What dosing method are you using? I see doses that seem to be changing for each shot. Second, what type of food is Medo eating? Do you think he will eat well while you are gone? And last, but not least, when he was diagnosed, was there DKA or have their been any ketones in the picture since then?

In addition to Wendy's questions, can you widen the columns on your SS. On the US side, it's indicating the columns aren't wide enough for the numbers to display.

When are you leaving? At the rate your kitty is going, he could be heading toward remission. Once you reply, I'll have a better sense of what to suggest.

We initially started SLGS but along the way we realized TR would make more sense since we are able to test a lot but we were kind of afraid of making big dosing changes so we were just somewhere in between (which I know isn't that smart :( ). But right now we’re trying to follow TR.

A couple of times we changed the doses according to how low the pre-shot was only because we weren't comfortable shooting the entire dose (according to the "rules" for SLGS you need to give a reduced dose between 8.3-11.1 if you don't have enough data which we tried but 25% of his usual dose was too little so we tried to give more and then this turned into dosing being changed a couple of times because the pre-shot kept changing and we didn’t know what his usual pre-shot even is anymore. And then we weren't able to hold the dose for more than about two cycles either because he fell lower than we were comfortable with already at +2 and even earlier in cycle (so we intervened with MC food almost every time). The last couple of days we tried to hold the dose and not change it but he fell to 2.8 at +2.5 (and we assumed he would have fallen more if we hadn’t fed him) so we took a dose reduction which was initially meant to be -0.25 but the next day we were kind of scared we could miss a good dose with that so we tried 0.45 again just in case but he fell to 2.9 again at +3 and we had to intervene with food and therefore we decided 0.3 is safer.

He’s on wet LC food (brand Kattovit) and he never refuses food no matter what happens, it’s never happened before!

He was diagnosed at the end of August this year. And he never had DKA or ketones.

I tried but it doesn’t make any difference. In the world one it shows everything normally but here I can’t seem to make it work. Does it maybe have anything to do with using @ for indicating the time (because the only ones not shown in the US template are the ones where I used @), maybe I didn’t do it right… Does it work for you if you click on the world mmol/L template? I’m leaving Saturday morning, right now it’s Thursday evening here.

I will send you a PM so I can get editing rights on the SS. Then I can fix it for you.

When anyone within FDMB clicks on the SS, it should open the US SS first as that is the one we use so that’s correct, The World SS is so you can enter the mmol/L readings from your meter and then it will be converted to US numbers so we can read them without converting.

I’ll fix it but the issue is she is getting the “value” in there because only numbers, not symbols, will convert from World to US. As Gill said, if there is anything but a number in a World cell, it has to be manually input in the US cell or it will just put in “value”.

@mafi The SS is now corrected for the US numbers. If you put anything but a number in the World SS cell, it will put “value” in the US cell. What you will need to do is to multiply the World number by 18, then go to the US SS and the corresponding cell; put your cursor in the cell and then type in the conversion number you got and then the rest of what you want there (e.g. @ 4.5); then manually enter and manually color. Let me know if you can’t figure it out. I’ve tried to come up with a formula that will convert it all but it just won’t with the @ and the time.
