Hello there, My name is Maria writing on behalf of Leo (He is not good with the laptop yet :) )He is 8 years old next months.Leo was diagnosed last May and started with Caninsulin first week of June.He was really good, just 1unit twice a day and almost in remission, eating high protein wet food and m/d Hills dry food. However last August he avoid eating, losing more weight and ending with DKA.He was really poor, 5 days in the pet hospital and survived. Now we are better but still worried about his diabetes. He needs 3.5 units twice a day but since I started to test at home is being a mess. He is now on high protein wet food twice a day (Lillys Kitchen) following my former vet advice (She left uk now with a new one)but his results are really strange.Leo's spreadsheet is below-signature. We live in uk. I don't know what to do. Any advice? Thanks

First comment, you will notice two tabs on the spreadsheet, one labelled World, one US. You have World numbers, mmoL/l, but have entered them on the US tab. You will get more help if you put them on the World tab. The numbers will then be translated automatically to the measuring system used by our US members to the US tab, and which we are also used to.

If you deliberately skip a shot like you recently did because of lower preshot numbers, enter either Skip or NS for no shot in the units column.

You may be seeing lower numbers if you got rid of the higher carb MD dry food.

Thanks for your reply. I re-done the spreadsheet. I do apologise for my mistake. Leo is no longer eating Md food as I notice no benefit as they say on the ads. He is now exclusively on high protein wet food with a 3% carbs. With MD HILLS and Royal canin he was most of the time over 25. Looking at the numbers now I believe he needs a longer lasting insulin. In his circle you an see regular numbers like 11 or 13 6+ and after that it goes up till 20 or more.

Thanks for the spreadsheet redo. I can read World numbers, but not all can. And over time, you will learn what the patterns mean with the colours.

I hope you will find someone to help you with the Caninsulin dosing. I didn’t have enough test data when we were on it to be of any help. Looks like the 3.5 units might be a bit high though, if you are having to skip because of low preshots. I, and Neko, were much happier with Lantus. Caninsulin wore off too fast and she was high for hours.
