Afternoon Folks!

Happy Monday, Election day in Canada, Still don't know how I'm going to vote because frankly I am unhappy with all parties, I wish that elections Canada would record declined ballots because this year thats what I would have done. Anyway, enough about that!

Question: I am going away for 2.5 days of training from the 22-24, Ross is currently learning how to do the whole routine with Nyx and Mowgli (Awesome). One thing that is a problem for Rossy is that he doesn't have amazing eyesight like me and even with the reference syringe he is having a hard time drawing the dose. I was wondering if it is an absolute no no to preload the syringes for him? I would probably make them up for him tonight so they would be in the syringe for max 6 cycles before usage.

I will have to see how Mowg does with his reduction but as of now I'm planning on keeping 0.5u as the dosage while i'm away as Ross will be testing and keeping the SS up to date, I will leave the FDMB webpage open in case he needs to ask for advice but he has said that is probably never going to happen

Today We had a volunteer day at the Salvation army for work, it was awesome and now I am eating lunch at home, I'll go to vote, and then we're having a team building bowling event, should be fun.

Keep Canada in your thoughts today as we struggle toward probably a minority government where most likely nothing constructive will get done... awesome!!

The apathy is sinking in... anyway... here I go to vote!! Wish Canada luck :D

Hi Amanda. Good Luck Canada :D..Eh:p

As per Insulin Care & Syringe Info Sticky it is NOT recommended that you pre-fill Lantus. When you go into the sticky re Insulin Storage it references the following article to explain why in more detail:

There is also this older thread answered by Sienne & Gabby explaining the same to another member in a similar situation.

I have a lighted magnifying lamp that clips onto a counter or table & it makes a world of difference in being able to see what you are doing with the smaller doses. You are able to get this on Amazon:

My DH also has - well shall we say - not as sharp vision as I do - he swears by these magnifiers with a light.
https://www.amazon.com/MagniPros-Il...tion+glasses+with+light&qid=1571687638&sr=8-5

Admittedly he's not trying to draw up a dose of insulin in the syringe - but he has difficulties seeing the little bitty teensy tiny blood drop on Luci's black ear. The blood is dark red and her ear is black black...so there's no contrast at all..and he really had a hard time testing her...But once he got these on, no problems...There are 6 different strength lenses included...so it's great for super fine work - like drawing insulin into the syringe. Not sure when you're leaving but Amazon has been pretty quick about getting things delivered lately.

Good luck to Canada!! :bighug:

Mowg's is looking good today :) Glad you have gotten some time to do something different with work...always keeps things interesting :)

It’s too late for craft glasses unfortunately (northern town = prime > 2 days shipping) and it’s a very small amount to measure even if it is a half unit.

The prefilled syringes aren’t helping because it’s the clear liquid he’s having trouble seeing. The dose is on a line but the BD syringes are particularly bad for having the markers off. For example if he followed the 0.5u line today Mowgli might have gotten 0.1u or a drop dose. Also I have callipers but again.. it’s the vision part.

I’ll see how he does over the next couple of cycles but I may have to pre fill. The paper referenced in the handling document fits within my time frame for my specific brand of syringes, Especially if I fill them on the morning of the 22nd

We will just have to see how Rossy-boy does over the next couple days :)

thanks for the best wishes for Canada!!

The other thing you can try is just go buy a pair of reading glasses with minimal magnification. He will have to go with you because if they are too strong, it will be worse.

Yes, and of course... he wears glasses... #complexity

I hope he just kind of grows more comfortable with it over the next couple cycles

He will get it!!:bighug: My husband jumps in a couple times a week to keep his mad cat skills going..:joyful:.LOL! I will often read him a thread when there’s a question & ask “what would you do?” It’s like a game show here....make sure he knows his stuff .

Hardcore! Tonight he measured well but unfortunately... furshot.

I was like: it happens! Don’t sweat it!

:rolleyes::rolleyes:o_Oo_Oo_O:cool:o_Oo_Oo_O:oops:

That’s awesome....the measurement is tricky when you start! Yay!!! :bighug: Tell him that’s when you want the fur shot...tonight!! Make the ooopsies up front so that when it’s game time & he is on his he’s got it figured out !! And then sometimes stuff still happens

When my DH is in charge of PMPS, dinner and shot, he almost always calls or texts me and says he got an error on the meter or he can’t get enough blood, I have to tell him to take a breath and try again and then he gets it done:rolleyes:

Testing isn’t an issue for us at all thankfully. But the shots are a learning curve. I should have been involving him sooner :)

Ya it’s definitely something that takes a couple times to get the hang of it. Thankfully when Blaze was first diagnosed, I told DH he HAD to learn how to give the shots and eventually, I told him he had to learn how to test too and he picked it up. He gets mad at himself when he can’t get Blaze’s ear to bleed on the first try  But if you think of it, we all started out not knowing what we were doing with tests and shots and it just took some practice to get the hang of it so he will get the hang of it too!

You’re so right! I’m not upset about it at all because I know how frustrating it can be. Poor Mowg will have to deal with higher numbers ... it will pay off in the long run ;)

I totally feel ya girl, I don’t get mad at DH either when he has a hard time with tests, he’s gotten the shots down great. It just takes practice, he will get the hang of it and be a pro in no time. And at least you will know Mowgli is a little higher and safe while you’re gone:)

So my DH asked that there be a “DH Corner” :) for comments :p. He asked me to share that one thing he really likes is that I leave a dummy syringe filled with dyed blue water so he can compare what he has drawn just to be sure he has it at least close. He said it makes him feel more confident to be able to use it to double check his syringe. He also said no more than 2 feline DM quiz ?s per day .

Yes! that is what I meant by the 'reference syringe' ;) For rossy he has a hard time actually seeing the clear liquid :P He did better last night though!

DH corner is a great idea!!
