Hi Briere...I can't remember if this has been discussed previously...but why the .1 increment for Ittle? Why not .25?

Anyway, I was scared of the huge drop I saw in both cats. Now that I know how inaccurate syringes are, I can assume that was the culprit and not the kitties overreacting to the Lantus. The box of syringes I was using had about 85% error on the "high" side. I would have definitely been giving them more than just their .25u increase. Amazingly enough I have found sure comfort to have the least amount of error. The errors they had were on the "low" side so, I wouldn't have been giving the boys enough insulin. I suppose that is much better in comparison to giving them too much. Relion and BD were both on the "high" side. Scary!I plan on bringing them both up to the appropriate dose Ittle 1.25u and Moey up to .75u. I would have increased Ittle today but, I have a family dilemma that may cause me to travel 6.5 hours with both cats. I'm not sure it's ideal to bump them up before a long road trip. They hate to travel. Providing snacks for them during travel wouldn't work because they refuse to eat. Plus I couldn't test during travel. Testing while away would also be limited due to circumstances. Of course AMPS/PMPS and maybe a +2 / +6 but, that's about it. I don't want to endanger them in any way. So, until I get some more information from my family about the dilemma, I'm holding off on the increase. I'm hoping to have an answer tonight or tomorrow.

Oh it's so hard when family gets priority over the tighter BG control of our cats. I'm glad I haven't had to experience that much, but it's coming sooner than I'd like.
I use calipers to test after every dose I draw, and have been impressed with the accuracy, so far, of the syringes I'm using. They are the BD Veo, 6mm length with half unit markings. Half a unit is Tina's dose now, and I've been happy with the accuracy of all of these syringes so far. It's a good thing to know we can't trust all syringes, even in the same box.

I began using calipers this morning. I have a lot of syringes with errors. So, until I can order the brand I prefer, I have to use the calipers to ensure accuracy. I will be using them to double check all doses. Handy tool. I've wondered about using scales to determine accurate doses. The weight would probably be too small to measure on anything besides a scale used in labs. I'm not sure it would work. It was just a thought that ran through the ole' noggin. A light box would also be an appropriate purchase to help with the dosing. It's on my list
My DH wanted to take a picture of me this morning; wearing my glasses with a head lamp on, using the magnifying glass and double checking with the 10x optical loop! It cracked him up!! I feel lucky now. all I need is reading glasses and a very bright light to look toward. Do tell your DH to get that picture of you all decked out in your medical gear, and then post it hereA light box would also be an appropriate purchase to help with the dosing. It's on my list
