Biscuits sugar was very odd last night. I tested him preshot PM and he was at 340, then +2 was 365, and +4 was 330. Finally this morning's AMPS was 210. I didn't feel any wetness last night so I don't think it was a fur shot but it seemed very odd. He does seem to have picked up a URI from the vet ER but seems to be getting better. Wednesday was a lot of sneezing and eye drainage from one eye, yesterday quite a bit less sneezing and drainage. He's still eating well.

With his sugar still going into the 300's, I am trying to test keytones daily (when I can catch a urine sample). Eventually the plan is to get a keytone meter but with the $1600 vet er bill its just not possible right now.

Just want to make sure I don't need to make any adjustments. We were holding steady while he got a good week under him after the DKA, but last nights numbers just were weird.
This is such a roller coaster. I don't mind taking care of everything associated with FD, but it seems like regulation is just so far off at this point.

That +2 last night could have been a food bump before the insulin brought his numbers back down. It looks like he's being bouncy from the blues and getting into the pinks. With SLGS, you would hold the dose with that 132 yesterday. If you are doing TR, you would increase the dose. Which are you following?

I hope he comes down soon Cassie! It takes time to get them to better numbers...and possible infections won't help. Try to be patient with him. You're helping him 'cause you're a good mama bean :)

To be honest I hadn't made up my mind. I've been reading up on both throughout the week since we switched. He hasn't been on Lantus for even a week yet since his DKA incident. However, because of the DKA the pinks make me very nervous. On a positive note I work from home most days and can check him during the day and till about 2 am if necessary.

Thoughts on the pros and cons given his history?

With DKA in the mix, you may want to try TR because you can increase the dose earlier than with SLGS. That will help get him into better numbers earlier. Since you are able to test at home a lot, this shouldn't be a problem. With TR you don't reduce the dose until he goes under 50.
