? Layla’s dental issue

Hi all

it’s been a while since my last post. Layla has been in remission and all has been well. Her glucose levels are still in normal range.

I took her to vet Monday because she was pawing, in pain when she tried to eat, so she won’t eat & had swelling. She was given antibiotic shot & she started clavamox antibiotic yesterday. She is now at the vet for her dental procedure. I just got a call from my vet the bad tooth game out quickly but he recommended I do biopsy because of the swelling. I agreed to it, but I’m now having second thoughts. I don’t want her to be in more pain then she was. I like for her to be able to eat pain free. My vet said, he could give her cortisone shot. I decline because I’m scared it would take her out of remission. She hasn’t been eating & I’m concerned she won’t when she comes home because of pain.

If anyone can shed some light, your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I see no reason for a cortisone shot at this point when an analgesic can be prescribed to keep Layla comfortable and able to eat following the tooth extraction and the biopsy. Cortisone should be a last resort treatment for any condition for a diabetic cat even if she is in remission as it could knock her out of remission.
Buprenorphine is commonly used for pain following dental procedures. Codeine is also used but seems less common. I'd say no to the cortisone and ask for an analgesic.

Can you please remove the "911" from the title? That is for imminent danger situations and gets everyone's adrenalin running. Layla thankfully is in no immediate danger. :)

My girls were given an anti-inflammatory and a pain medicine (which was bupe) following their dental procedures.
 
My girl had a bony bump on her jaw removed during a dental. Thankfully biopsied as benign. She had a week of extra buprenorphine and was eating fine shortly after she came home. She was also on an antibiotic, clindamycin, which is commonly given for mouth issues. But it is strong, so best give probiotics to help the tummy flora recover. Give the two at least two hour apart.
