Stayed at 2 units. Hoping we can find his best dose. Does this prolonged high numbers hurt him? Should I be watching out for anything. He's still eating and seems relatively happy .
Hi. I go home at lunch and check at about +5 or +6.It's not idea, but if he is high from bouncing and comes back down I don't think that is as hard on them as staying high all of the time. He may need a dose increase if he doesn't come back down. Are you able to get any mid cycle test today to see if he comes down?
Yes. With SLGS you evaluate every 7 days unless he earns a reduction.o, I will hold steady for a week and then reevaluate ?
Got it. Thanks again !Yes. With SLGS you evaluate every 7 days unless he earns a reduction.
Thank you. I just hope we can find a good dose for him. Would this be tru regardless of the insulin I'm using. It's not like some cats just can't use Lantus is it ?When a cat is diagnosed with diabetes their body has gotten used to the higher numbers. The idea with giving insulin is to get them back into normal (lower) numbers and get their body used to those numbers again. Until that happens, their body will panic thinking the more normal numbers are too low and then they will bounce back into the higher numbers. As you increase the insulin dose you'll be able to get Blackie into the normal (lower) numbers and eventually he will stop bouncing as his body realizes that is normal. It takes time and is different for each cat in how long it takes.
