@Bron and Sheba (GA) I don't want to give Sherry the wrong information, I usually wait 30 minutes after Tyler is done eating and then shoot. He is on Vetsulin, her cat is on Lantus do you also wait 30 minutes if on Lantus
@Diane Tyler's Mom with Lantus you don't need to wait 30 minutes after feeding to shoot like you do with Vetsulin, because Lantus is a long acting insulin with an onset of about 2 hours so as long as a kitty on Lantus will eat some food you can go ahead and shoot. You then have 2 hours before onset and can feed some more if needed.

Are you able to monitor Blackie for few hours tonight? Do you have lots of supplies....strips, lancets?

I definitely would not give the 4u at that pre-shot but how much to reduce depends on what you are able to do to monitor.

Couldn't test at 4 pm. Just tested Pre-shot for PM he's at 179. Should I do 4 units.

I think that considering you have little data and your dose was raised so quickly, a really good case could be made to maybe start over at a lower dose until you get some more data (especially if you're removing the high carb dry food)

How does 2 or 2.5U sound for everybody?

Another question....have you fed Blackie yet? If not, don't feed him. Retest his BG in 30 minutes to see if he is rising on his own.
My husband feed him 1/2 can wet about 4pm. I usually wouldn't feed him again for the night. It's been 3 hours since he ate. Should I do shot now ? It's been 12 hours.

Your routine should be to test, feed and shoot all within maybe 10 to 15 minutes at most. You need to be sure Blackie will eat so feed him before shots to make sure he is at least willing to eat something whether it's a full meal of not. Generally we feed a full meal with the shot and snacks spread out through the day/night.

You might want to start posting over in the Lantus Forum ….everybody there uses Lantus, Basaglar or Levemir so you'll get the most experienced eyes helping you. It's not required though. You can continue posting here in Health if you like (but when the thread gets long like this one, it's time to start a new one....just put the link to the prior one into the new post!)

Here's a post on Making the Most of your Lantus, Basaglar, & Levemir Land Experience

Hi. I'll start post there this afternoon. I can't figure out how to link it. Just tested he's at 283. Any suggestions on how many units this AM.

Sorry we didn't see your post until now.

Good decision re: the dose this morning Sherry. :) Lantus works best when given consistently and given those lovely blues you saw yesterday, I think I'd stay with the 2u for now as long as pre-shot is high enough to shoot and nadir (mid cycle test) doesn't drop below 90. We can use 90 as a reduction point for now till you get a little more data and decide what dosing method you'd like to use.
