So tonight I learned never let your guard down!! I have been slacking on the before bed testing the past few days but he told me he needed to be tested tonight so I did.. and WOW am I glad I did!! He is hungrier than I’ve ever seen him but otherwise not symptomatic. Currently scarfing some HC food...:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

Good catch! I would be scared to see a number like that but it looks like he’s responding to the food quickly too!

Oh yeah it’s definitely scary! And this early in the cycle it’ll be a while before I can get any sleep. It’s a very good thing that the food is working!

Definitely makes me think twice about waiting to test. I tend to only check the +4 and +5, sometimes +6 if I’m scared it’s going low but I never check the +3. I’ve only been getting about 5 hours of sleep now that Missy is out of remission so I empathize with how crappy it is to have to stay up all night. I hope Spot reaches safe numbers and stays there.

WOW! Someone has certainly earned a reduction! Great job on the recovery! I hope you'll post your recovery methods (foods, etc.) in your notes - it's helpful to others who may deal with that same issue to see what it took to get Spot going in the right direction again.

And, yep...those tests...can't say how important it is to test, test...and test some more...

PS: Would you be able to add the link to your last condo at the top of your post?

Last night was actually pretty easy to steer him... not counting the fear. I gave him the full 3oz can of high carb food over the first half hour. I usually do a teaspoon at a time testing in between but I figured he was low enough that I didn’t want to take any chances so I gave him as much as he asked for - just spaced out a little bit to avoid the scarf and barf. I didn’t feed him again after he got above 50. I am a little surprised the insulin didn’t keep trying to pull him back down... but I guess he got what he needed!

Link has been added :)

Great job!

The only thing to consider with giving a ton of food that early is that if you need to keep boosting up the numbers, Spot may be full and refuse food or if he still wants to eat, it may be too much food and he may vomit. With numbers that low, I'd consider some HC (mostly gravy, if that's what you're using -- the gravy, not so much the solids) and add some corn syrup or honey -- usually a couple of drops at a time.

You’re right of course. I’m lucky that what I gave him was enough to bring him up.. but I’m not sure I could’ve gotten him to eat more if he needed to. I have Karo on hand so if this happens again I’ll try giving less solids and more gravy & Karo.
