It's been almost 4 months since Mačka started taking Lantus (diagnosed May 29th, started Lantus June 15th). I was really hoping we'd be regulated by now!

I increased this morning to 3.75. I never thought we'd go that high! And most likely going to the 4 units...
What do you all think of his progression? Is it hopeful or hopeless?:facepalm::facepalm:

Thank you and have a beautiful Friday!

It is never hopeless!:)
(but even if it was I'd still keep going regardless, I think you'd do too)

The Yellow mid AM today are so much better than what you used to get for the past 3 days, so definitely good progression and that increase was the right thing to do. I hope it'll bring him down overall.

Do not let the number of units make any impression on you.
It really isn't that important #U, as long as it gives a cat good healing time.
Cats need what they need is a popular say here.

Besides ,you may not need to stay on the larger doses, it is only until you find the one that will get him thru possible Glucose Toxicity. If you keep to the TR and increase as you did this AM I am sure you'll be seeing better numbers.:)

Don't get discouraged !! :bighug: Macka might need a little more juice than you were expecting but look at his numbers compared to when he started... He progressed a lot since the beginning and that's only a few months ago! Keep following the protocol and at one point he will find his dose, the one that will keep him in a healthy range! Don't be afraid of larger doses, it takes what it takes. ECID

To be a happy mom, we should not compare our kitties numbers and doses to others!! I know what I'm talking about on this one....:p
Keep on your wonderful work with Macka!:bighug:

I am hoping the trend means no more red and black preshots (antijinx).

I too had to go much higher than 4 units. There IS a dose out there that will move Macka. Keep going as you have and you will get there.

You'll get him into some better numbers...it just takes time and patience. We're coming up on our 2-year diagnosis anniversary...so I know how you feel...just relax and keep helping him. I hope he starts to improve with this increase... :)

I just upped Jackson to 3.5. I feel the same way, I wasn’t expecting to have to use so much insulin. But the good news is that his neuropathy has improved greatly. His heels are usually off the ground now, and he can jump much better. I think I’m encountering some glucose toxicity too, since he was on a safety dose for three weeks while I was gone. Sometimes it helps to look at the whole cat, which might paint a happier picture than just the bg numbers show.

Me too! However he already had yellows and even blues at a lower dose during the last two weeks. It looks like maybe glucose toxicity increases at the same pace as the dose increase?

Thank you so much for the reminder :) I hope he can heal.

Thank you Lyane! I am afraid of higher doses, you're right. But also of a breakthrough that I thought would happen, but hasn't just yet... It's hard not to compare with others! Most of all those who have an early breakthrough. I hope that Macka still has a chance of remission..!

Me too! With the human meter he is mostly in the pinks, but I try not to be too much in the "better numbers illusion" due to the change of meter from Alpha Trak to Nova Max. However I can see a slight improvement nonetheless in the last two weeks or so.

Thank you for the encouragement!

2 years!! ahhh, that's a long time to deal with feline diabetes on a daily basis. Do you feel like you got into an acceptable pace? Do you still feel anxiety or are you serene about it now?

these blues were too high to count. Most of them closer to the yellow range.
You'll be seeing good numbers on TR, patience!

 not a chance.

I used to be the best "what if-er" around here :joyful: but you may be even greater one :);)
Try not to think what might happened. As long as you test you'll see what is going on and always can interfere or correct things. You'll be fine:)

Oh, I hope that it's not glucose toxicity! How did it go while you were away? How was the pet sitter?

I am so glad to read that Jackson can walk again. His numbers are good enough to allow the neuropathy to heal, I'm sure.
When I look at the whole cat, he has improved from when he first arrived here. But he is not the one I saw last Christmas in France (not yet). At the time, he was still a happy purring dude that slept with me. But he definitely got some of his personality back. I hope he can start jumping on chairs and beds again soon!!

How about the ones that were on insulin for over a year sometimes that went into remission, don't forget about them!

Remission is our first goal, but if it doesn't happen and we can bring our kitty into safe and healthy numbers with insulin does it mean we failed? NO we suceeded ! We are giving them a happy and healthy life!

Now let's aim for remission for Macka but without a deadline ! :bighug: Take your time, put your patience pants on and follow him... his little body is leading ...and he is not on high doses right now! :)

No I don't!!! They are an inspiration! :joyful:

Yes, you're absolutely right!
If I bring him into yellows, I will already think I succeeded lol.

Patience pants! Yes, we can only do our best here to support and accompany them.
I read in the literature that remission is less likely to happen passed 6 months after diagnosis. All I want for him is to get better and go into remission not for my comfort, but so that he can go back to France to his beloved house (my mother's) and have his happy life back!!

A petsitter isn’t ever going to be as good as the main caregiver, I think. I wasn’t totally happy, and she was terrified of testing, so that didn’t happen. But I noticed right away that his neuropathy improved while I was gone so I can’t argue with that.

Yes, they can't give as much attention as us, for sure. It also gives the cat a break though :) It's great that you could leave for three weeks, although I'm sure you must have been worried. I was originally thinking of cancelling my one month trip to France altogether, but now wondering if I can leave Macka for 10 days with my husband. I will be worried sick but I have to go deal with stuff in Paris. My husband can test at pre-shots and give the shot, but Macka will be alone all day with a reduced dose. I wonder how it can work without any dramatic outcome! I have to decide soon, my ticket was for next Tuesday :/
