9/8 Sebastian AMPS 91 +2 115 +4 96 +5 144 +8 135 +11 158 PMPS 173 +2 176. Stealth kitty pic

AMPS 91, B-0HB 0.3, 11lbs 11.5oz. Finally got some greens and he's getting his energy back. And it's kinda looking like he's back to his late nadir ways.

WOW! Sebastian has turned 'the' corner! You've been very patient with him! What do you think has attributed to this final grand entry to the lagoon? I know for quite some time, he was frustrating you with his not so great numbers...

It seems that the dental has a strong correlation with the rise and subsequent fall of the numbers. We know he had some infection/inflammation markers in the blood prior to the dental, and that had likely been slowly been building up for a while, giving us the ever increasing and non-treatment-responsive numbers. Then the dental clears that up, we got the blood work done to show the markers were gone, so the BG gets a little better but his body is still recovering from the trauma and medication. Now that it seems he's gotten over that and his body is "healthy", we're getting to the normal BG numbers and dosing routine.

It's why I'm a big believer that the dosing protocols are only half the picture. They're designed around an assumption that diabetes is the only thing wrong with the cat but we know that many other factors can contribute to BG increases. TR would have had me further increasing the dose beyond 8u, however because I knew that there were other things at play I didn't follow it and instead dosed based on what was actually happening with him. If I would have followed TR we'd probably be looking at a hypo risk today. Probably still going to get a bit low but not as bad as it could have been.

That's a great example to follow I think - it takes experience and thoughtful consideration of all the factors. I agree - sometimes it's easier to 'follow the rules' to the T - and it's harder to actually look at all the aspects of your cat's idiosyncrasies and evaluate their entire health picture as part of your dosing/decision processes.

I applaud you for all the time/thought and love you display for Sebastian. He's a lucky cat to have such a great daddy bean to help him thru this! :bighug:

144@+5. Heading out for a couple hours to get a massage. Thank you for cooperating Sebastian and giving me a number I don't have to worry about. Make it only a short spike though please.

What a beautiful day! I hope the massage was great:)
It would be so nice to see this new cool blue fashion stick or imprint. Then take it down gradually, for some safe reductions. Feel good Sebastian! I see normal numbers, not bounces. Small rise after food...

Just seemed weird that he didn't really spike after breakfast but then did at lunch and stayed up. I guess he ate a little more at that meal, but still
I was thinking about how close the numbers were overall, considering two tests in a row can be 10 points or more different, and little fluctuations occur naturally. Meals don't always process at the same rate, activity changes, etc. Hoping he doesn't go up much, if any, for the next test! It is so good now.

So, there's a chance I didn't fully think it through when I picked out the colors for the new cat bed. Wife went to feed him earlier while I was out and said she looked all over the house and couldn't find him. He was just laying in the bed, completely blending in.

PMPS 173, B-0HB lo, 11lbs 13.5oz. Gonna go easy on the tests tonight most likely. Get a +2 and unless the he does a major drop, I'll catch up on some sleep and tag him in the morning.

Haha! It may not be the best color, but it looks like Sebastian likes his bed very well!
His numbers are looking great!

For what it’s worth, TR worked just great for me. I had a cat with two high dose conditions, IAA and acromegaly, treatment done for acromegaly, CKD, arthritis, and later on heart disease and small cell lymphoma which included budesonide for treatment. The only modification I did was the reduction point went up 20 points when she was in dose free fall after radiation therapy. She also had a few dentals, including one to remove a growth on her jaw, much more serious than a dental cleaning. For me, the very occasional high green was not enough. If you don’t see anything lower than the 80’s, you could try fattening the dose by 0.25 units.

Remember that the use of R can sometimes impact the following cycle. Plus there is the IAA factor. To be seen if the greens were from the Lantus dose or impacts of your use of R yesterday.

Speaking of R, have you got an R scale out together yet?
