8/31 - AMPS 119 / Last PMPS 194 (Stall?)

I'm back.

This is his lowest reading yet. He had a bounce a few days ago when I skipped a shot. I'm trying to adjust his **** schedule earlier, but if I have to wait now and check him again in a bit before shooting, that's going to throw that off too.

Guessing I should not feed and test again in 45 minutes or so and ask long as numbers are going up, give him his shot?

If you stall you want to check in 20 to 30 minutes. Are you going to be home today to monitor? Do you have plenty of supplies?

I have plenty of supplies. I'll be home for a few hours, but I was planning to go out at some point. It's not completely necessary if I have to stay home, but it's a potential work opportunity that I'd hate to miss.

Going to test again now...

If you have to go out in a couple of hours, I would not shoot. I'd skip. You don't want him to go too low on you while you're out.

If you do shoot, you should get a +1 and a +2 to see what he's going to do.

You also don’t need to wait 45 minutes. 15 to 30 mins is enough to wait without food.

When do you have to leave? I’d echo @carfurby and not shoot if you wanted to go for your job opportunity. Just for safety’s sake. Next time, when this happens again and you can monitor, I would give insulin.

Well, I shot him, so I guess I'll stick around. Bummer. His numbers are doing so well, I don't him to bump back up by not shooting. If things go like they have, I'm hoping this will put him in the green.

I've been making comments on the cells of my sheet when I have to do stuff like this. Is that customary practice that people will read when looking at it?

I don't normally notice comments in the cells. Most people put their comments in the remarks section at the end of the row. Test at +1 and +2 and see what he's going to do. If he bounces you may be able to go to your appointment.

Great job shooting! Just a reminder and if you don’t know already: since your shot time has been pushed back, you need to slowly work up back to your regular schedule. So that’ll mean shooting 12 hours later from now tonight and then moving back up 15 minutes twice a day or 30 minutes once a day. It should just take you a day and half to catch up.

I think most people will read comments made in the comments section but not pop up comments if that’s what you’re wondering. Mobile users might not be able to view them.

Just a reminder/clarification that when you skip a shot (or get a fur shot) and numbers go up because of the lack of insulin, it isn't the same as a bounce. From the "start here" sticky:

  • Bouncing - Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast. The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles).

Tested at +2 (actually 20 minutes later than that) and he's up to 179. I'm guessing that's good post feeding at this point.

Okay, he tested 90 at +6. Glad I stayed home. He's havimg more food now, so I'm hoping it levels off. I'll keep in checking but it'd certainly nice to see him in the green!

He's gorgeous! And those are very nice numbers! Glad you were courageous and gave him his insulin...looks like he utilized it well :)

Wondering if this morning is an actual bounce. His AMPS was 378. Yesterday was the first time he'd gotten into the green and was blue the rest of the day. I didn't skip a shot and he didn't have any food throughout the night.

Curt - would you mind starting a new thread/condo today? It's what we all do here on the fourm.

Just title it like this: 9/1 Leo AMPS ###

And add the url from this condo (from yesterday) to the first line of your post...then go from there with conversations and comments.

Thanks so much! We'll be looking for your new thread :)
