Chris, thanks for your understanding, patience, and keeping on top of Dee Dee's care! ;) Yes, I do need help w/spreadsheet --I tried to add the link but got a message saying I didn't have any more room left in my signature (I copied and pasted--obviously wrong). Thanks for asking again.

Re yesterday's tests: 95 in a.m., gave 1 U; 449 p.m., gave 1 U. (she was hungry and ate after that);
99 Before bed.
Today 197 a.m., gave 1 U
Per your advice, for now I won't "shoot under 150 unless someone on Forum can monitor me through the cycle." Not sure if I clearly understood "start low, go slow."

Re wanting food during the night because she's probably getting hypo-- Agree - she does seem "desperate" for food, not the usual mealtime hunger. She keeps meowing urgently in my ear, making sure I wake up and hear her.

Questions: What does OTJ mean?
Should PS test in a.m. be fasting?

Will check out Sticky for more info. After the last 5 years of Dee Dee living with diabetes and being treated by vets who likely lacked adequate expertise, I'm needing to re-evaluate and re-educating myself for her care - going back to square one. I am most grateful to the Board's members who care enough to take the time to research feline diabetes and share their knowledge. I regret that Dee Dee had to suffer more than was necessary. She was on the brink of death because of a vet's incompetence. Maybe cats do have 9 lives.

As mentioned, I'll be 80 next month. Learning a whole new way of caregiving is taking much more time and energy-- of the latter I seem to have less and less. And it takes more time to understand instructions and to carry them out. It's not really different than caregiving a loved relative who is seriously ill. I feel drained a lot, but am aware of taking care of myself, having a life. I sincerely appreciate all the advice and patience the Forum members are extending. At some point, I can learn enough to give back to novice caregivers.

OTJ = off the juice -- in remission, no longer getting insulin
yes PS test should be fasting -- take food up 2 hours before if you leave it down

totally understand the exhaustion, feeling drained, it's emotional exhaustion as well as physical -- plus often a lack of sleep -- quite a few of us are in your age range too

:bighug::bighug::bighug: -- glad you are here, some of the info in your signature can go into Personal Details instead, to make room for SS (spreadsheet) link

P.S. Please advise how to delete my name under DeeDee's photo and add her name. Thanks
Hi and welcome!!

Is a great thing you are doing taking care of your suggar baby.

What appears under DeeDee's photo is your username, you can change your username but whatever you choose will always show under her photo that's how the forum works you can't actually delete it

Have you already shooted?

I took the liberty of shortening your signature to this

Dee Dee is 15|Dx 2014|Lantus|ReliOn Prime|Diet: Chicken, salmon(human food), Friskies wet|Hyperthyroidism-Dx 2017, Methimazole 2.5mg. 2x/day|Mom is Claire, Santa Fe, NM.

You only have so many characters to work with in your signature. I maintained the pertinent info you really need now. Only deleted the info about past dry food which should be out of Dee Dee's system by now. You should be able to add your spreadsheet if you replace your signature with this shortened version. If you continue to have a problem, just holler.

All PS tests should be fasting. Food should be withheld for at least 2 hours prior to PS tests. Have you tested for the PM shot yet?

If you have not given insulin, I would suggest you hold off. It looks to me like the dose is way too high if needed at all but we need to see some data so please see if you can now include the link to your spreadsheet in your signature. :)

Thanks for your fast response! Do you mean no food 2 hrs. before the fasting PS test? Didn't want to sound self-pitying. Nice to know that I am in good company with other older caregivers. Thanks for heads up on SS. It was touching to hear about heroic cat parents who are dealing with issues like CA and CKD on top of diabetes. p.s. Dee Dee speaks another language too, unrecognizable, maybe ancient Mesolithic. Glad you are here too.

Thanks for the info! I haven't shooted yet - it's about 4pm here and she doesn't get her shot until 9pm or so. Getting more enlightened by the minute!

She hasn't filled in some of her spreadsheet for a few days so I don't have tests to add, but I added yesterday's AMPS and PMPS (I don't know at what point her "before bed" of 99 was)

I agree she needs to reduce the dose and told her already to drop to .75 in this thread

With the dry out of the picture, it may be easier for her to go back to .5 since it's on a line on the syringe (if she has half unit syringes)

The before bed 99 reading was listed below the first two --all yesterday's readings. Sorry, I've been unable to add spreadsheet-- I've been asking around for specific details to do it. I'm not good at techy stuff. Yes, I have half unit syringes, and will go back to .5, or estimate .75.

It was about 4 hrs. since PMPS of 449 that I got the 99. I understand that the 99 would go in the +4 cell. Many thanks. You asked for my sign in. Is it user name and password? Much thanks.
