I am looking for a list of approved wet foods for my diabetic cat, I have one but it’s American so we don’t have most foods or the names are different, so looking for a Canadian one if possible.

Hello from central Ontario. And great that you are considering home testing. It is most important to keep your cat safe. Testing strips are more expensive in Canada than in the US, but we have cheaper insulin. Canadian members can help you with choosing a glucometre when the time comes.

President's Choice and Performatrin foods.

For other brands, you will have to scroll through Dr. Lisa's chart.

I see that Lionel is just getting over a rough patch of diarrhea. If you switch food, you may want to do so gradually.

Thanks so much! But the Canadian list is only like 2 kinds? Unless it’s not loading right? It’s just the names for friskies pates seem to be different here, but thanks for the info it seems most pates r okay so we ll stick to the ones I have found on the list

Almost half the ones listed in Dr. Lisa's list are available in Canada. You might have to hit specialty pet food stores for some of them. Canada Fresh also puts out a line of gluten free foods that look low carb.

Best value are the friskies and pc. Pc seems like better ingredients. Boreal is cheaper than most pet store brands but you may have a hard time finding it- it is only sold in the more "local" stores. Global pet foods can order it. Search boreal on here and i have posted the as fed values before

Friskies chicken pate large can, i *think* it has a relatively plain label. Been a while since I bought it.

Boreal foods are higher carbs than originally thought, but they don't seem to affect sugars as much as other foods of similar carbs.

I feed pc chicken medium cans, and buy them when they are both on sale and points special. I occasionally feed the beef and oceanfish as well.

My cat loves PC canned, which has great percentages. My local Loblaws and No Frills sells PC Extra Meaty value pack. It’s inexpensive at $7 and has the best flavours with the best percentage spread without any fish ingredients (which Dr. Lisa recommends against)

Wonder if you can order the food from the US chewey.com website? I feed Fancy Feast classic pate Chicken and Liver and Chicken. They carry most that are on the food list.
