Waiting for the ol' 0.75u depot to build up. Hopefully we see some blues and greens on this dose :) Mowgli is doing well and being his handsome cuddly self today :)

I forgot to mention that on my trip I decided to test Mowgli's sister Rajah's BG levels since she was on the same diet as Mowgli and has lost weight since I last saw her... my heart was POUNDING! what if she was diabetic too!? 61.2 WHAT a relief!! I was so happy to see she is looking and feeling good!

Hope everyone has a great day :joyful:

I was staring at one of my civvies ears yesterday, noticing the vein that was so visible in the light.
That's great you tested Rajah, and the number is lovely. You just encouraged me to test another cat!

Funny you mention testing other pets....I started testing my dogs. Adori, my American Eskimo has a bad heart and is on lots of meds and they can raise her glucose. I have noticed on lab reports that her glucose has gone up by about 10 points so that has me alarmed as well. My heart was pounding also as I tested her. Unfortuantely she looks like she is border line. So another thing on my plate to loose sleep over. I also tested my other dog and one day she was real high and then the next day she dropped about 50 points and was normal on two different meters. Not to sure what is up with that either! I think I need to STOP testing the dogs and just test Yoyoo_O

Can you please tell me the name of the caliper that you recently purchased. I am thinking of getting another one. The one I use is real sensitive and hard to lock in the dosage amount. Is your's hard to lock the number into it? Do you have to add the dosage amount each time you use it? And is it heavy? Mine is heavy to hold!...thanks!!

I know this question wasn't directed to me, but these are the calipers I use: Lightweight and small enough to store in Luci's kit: https://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-...sae-and-metric-fractional-readings-63731.html

Why not eh!? I had read that Male Neutered cats are more predisposed to getting diabetes but Mowgli and Rajah had been fed the same diet so i wanted to test just in case! I hope you civvie has some good BG results!

Well at least you're aware of their BG levels! The thing about dogs is: who knows what they could be into!! I wouldn't sweat it! the good thing is you will be on high alert if they start peeing a lot or become ravenous!

I got my calipers on amazon, they can be tricky to get to the actual fine tuned number, but they lock really well... I'm also not a huge fan of the small stubby arms because they can be hard to see for fine tuned dosing... but now that I am used to it, they are less of an issue visually for me, A few people recommended some crafting glasses to me and while i haven't ordered them yet I may have to in the future. The calipers are very lightweight!

Thank you for letting me know what you use and thank you for sending the link. And please, you are always welcome with any information, I greatly appreciate it. I directed the question to Amanda because I knew that she recently purchased calipers and I couldn't find the post's with all the information.

Does your caliper need to be fined tune each time you use it? And is it hard to fine tune it. The one that I have now is very very tempermental. I break out in a cold sweat trying to get the correct numbers set:joyful:

No, it does not require re-setting or fine-tuning each time I use it - I use it twice a day - occasionally I take a look to make sure the digital display still says the number that I set it at - I have to change it every time I change Luci's dose and I find it pretty easy to do. It's a little 'touchy' if I try to do it in a hurry...so I usually sit down, lay it on the counter and try to gently nudge the little slider parts until I hit the correct number. I have a cheat-sheet on my SS that I refer to for what the mm is supposed to be for each dose - but that's set for my Relion syringes from Walmart - each manufacturers syringes are slightly different so your calipers need to be set for your syringe. I'd be lost without them now but I'll admit I struggled in the beginning because I wasn't sure where to set the top edge of the upper lower lip (if that makes any sense)...I was putting the upper level in the wrong place but got help getting it squared away and haven't looked back. I'm very happy with the little calipers from Harbor Freight. I had ordered a more expensive larger calipers from Amazon - but the thing is heavier and bigger and doesn't fit into Luci's kit - I need it handy since I use it frequently - this one was perfect for us :) I hope you can get one that's easier to use and then play around with setting it - get comfy and slide it back and forth until you're at a number you want to be at - turn the little knob on the top to 'lock' and then be sure to turn it to the 'off' position otherwise it'll burn up the little battery too soon! I've had to replace my battery twice in the year or so that I've had them - so it's a good idea to get a couple of batteries when you get your calipers (I had the Amazon calipers as a back-up when the battery died)... I love the calipers! Makes for a consistent dose every time :)

Thank you! I'm gonna look your caliper up on amazon and I'm gonna look up what Sue sent me.
I use a magnifier that I put over my head. It sits on my head like a visor and then my hands are free to measure. They are called head magnifiers or helmet magnifiers and they come with different magnifications so check what is good for your eyes.
I used to squint something terribly until I used these. I won't leave home without them:joyful:
