? HELP - hypoglycemia Wednesday need guidance for Friday AM

Hello,

Yesterday evening when I did the BG, Pansy was at 53. I have her karo syrup and high carb food and her numbers improved.

Another forum member advised no AM shot if under 200. The cutoff would usually be 100 but this person felt that 200 was safer because of my lack of data.

Additionally, a reduction of .25 was recommended. She was on .5 units Lantus 8/11 and now she'll be on .25.

This AM her BG was 172 so I didn't give her a shot.

Her PM BG is 264. If I follow instructions given yesterday, it's ok to give her .25 insulin.

Does this seem OK?

Thanks!

Jill

Also, I am taking tomorrow off from work to do a glucose curve. It's a good idea to do that, right?

YES :bighug:... following yesterday advise is purrfect :)

Hey there! Pansy, ( love the name!) earned a reduction fair and square with that 54 and you are using the AT2 meter. I would give .25 tonight as long as you can monitor. If she is still in bounce mode from that 54 number, I would wait for the bounce to clear which can take 3 days or 6 cycles . If you try to do a curve during a bounce, you are not getting a true reading of what dose can do. And you are wasting very expensive AT2 test strips.

Hi Bobbie,

I felt safe with the BG of 264 but I will watch her and test again before bed.

No curve tomorrow eh? I think I will relax a bit then and forage at Wal-Mart for 31 gauge syringes and a magnifying glass.

Maybe work on collecting items to donate to the Kitten Rescue of Mason County garage sale!

You could also try magnifying reading glasses from the dollar store if they don't give you a headache.
Practice using coloured water until you get what you feel is 0.25. Put the cap on the needle and use it as a comparison.
Get a +1 and +2 tonight. The +1 may be higher because of a food spike. The +2 will be more telling of what tonight's cycle will hold.

I missed the +1 but will do the +2. Good idea about the colored water! TY!

I gave P a little FF as a reward for enduring another BG test. Should I leave a little food out at night?
She was 264 at 5:00 PM
Insulin at 6 PM
BG at 8:00 (+2 right?) Was 165
That's quite a drop. Still not scary? Just want to be sure...quite anxious about this.
We've experienced 2 hypoglycemia events - last week and yestery.

I would keep monitoring the BG if the preshot was 264 and +2 was 165. Yes that is a big drop and it will be an active cycle. I would feed a teaspoon of low carb food now and test at +3 to see how she's going.
If you can keep the SS up to date that would be helpful

I just updated SS. I think auto correct messed up your message. "a t sapping" of low carb food?

BG 136 @9:37 PM...or 3.5 hours after insulin
Ok so still dropping.
I would give a tablespoon of low carb food now and test in 1 hour again.
Try not to leave it longer than an hour. I'll be watching.
She is quite safe, but we don't want her to drop too fast or too much, so that is why we are giving her some food to try and control the drop a bit.. Is that ok with you?

Yes! I'm so grateful for your assistance, Bron! Will test again around 10:30.

This AM her BG is 129 - this is 2nd day after hypoglycemia. Her insulin was reduced.
I understand this may be a bounce.
I was told not to shoot if under 200.
Following this rule I will skip the shot.
Does this seem correct?

Thanks!
Jill

I am staying home today but after all the testing yesterday, Pansy is pissed. It was a real struggle getting the BG this morning. I don't want to do that again.
Thanks for responding!

129 on the alphatrak 2 is too low for you to shoot without more data.
If you can, try and get some more tests in during the cycles. I don’t mean today when you haven’t given insulin, but cycles when insulin has been given
