? 8/5 Butternut AMPS=343 +7=surfing the lagoon. PMPS=147

He's at 125 @ +11.5 though not entered on the chart yet. What % food should I give to sustain the surf but avoid the lows? He can crater +2 and 3 and he'll very likely be taking a walk after around +1 to further influence the bg downward.

I have raw, 2%FF, 3-4% Daves, FF flakes trout(7%?), ... can mix them too. I'll be checking him frequently but trying to get it right to spare his pads too.

I started him off on straight raw. I'll check +1 and and +2 and if either are <PMPS then 2% to start. If he goes for a walk at any time he's going to carb up even more. He comes to life now, 7pm.

Suggestions still welcomed. I am trying to figure out what to feed him and when and now we are in new territory again with sustained blue-green

Nutty is a nocturnal kind of guy! I agree with you on getting the 1+ and 2+. Keep a close eye on him and be prepared to bring out something higher carb if he starts to go into the ranges that make you uncomfortable. I've seen cats that have already been in the lagoon for the better part of the day just give it up for the next cycle...it'll be interesting to see if he drops back down this evening. Enjoy the walk. At least he's feeling well enough to do that :)

Trying to preload the green and have it sustained - that's what I'm guessing at. Trial and error needed for sure. That's even if he goes green tonight.
The outdoor walks throw a hammer into the works and it really packs a whallop on his bg readings. Feeding him hourly in the green is a pita too.

no signs of a walk at this point.... when he eats so frequently as he did today there's no need to get up at normal meal times. the urge to hunt is gone. purring loudly though. as long as he's healing and making progress I'll let him snooze.

Thanks

Oh, I gotch...and I've been trying to do that for almost two years...feed the curve...it's trial and error for sure...for me it's mostly error as obviously if you look at Luci's SS, we're not there yet. My goal is to keep her safe...whatever else she does is on her own volition...she doesn't listen to a word I say about staying in the lagoon (once there)...or getting there if she's not. Typical obstinate cat... :p

Safe for sure! NO lime green for us, thanks. That's another reason I posted the question. Boost, not bonk.

Test at +1 and +2 and decide then if you need to deviate from the usual food. At this point you need to learn what works for Butternut. Different cats have differing carb sensitivies. Jill's Alex got a boost from freeze dried chicken. Neko used to be able to sustain a surf with freeze dried meat. Others need higher carb. It also depends when in the cycle you are. Before nadir, when the insulin is building, will need higher carbs that after nadir. Track what you feed, amount as well as carb%, and when.
