Hi -

+ Recently dropped to 0.5 unit BiD.
+ Trying to get better consistency around the time for 7:30 AM / 7:30 PM
+ Wouldn't mind a recommendation of a good stain remover stick as we got a great blood bead just now followed by a "my ear feels wet" head shake all over my pillow cases! Poor sugar baby.

So - 91 is good for +4 right? No worries here?

Thanks,
Kim & Max:00cat

Ok I did a second test today (to start filling in blanks and understand him) --- does anyone else have a cat who literally trembles when you go to do the ear prick? He doesn't every time, but if he's feeling weird or if the last one was bad (like this morning - he pulled his ear away as I pricked and it tore a little which makes me super upset TBH). Also can someone tell me if the numbers look good for third day at new lower dose? My vet told me that 240 is where cats start spilling sugar into the urine -- accurate? Is the goal to keep them regulated then under 240 at all times? What should I expect to happen with the lantus over the course of the next few days as we stay at this dose? Thank you. Hey Kim, I can't really speak to numbers (I'm new to this), but I can tell you it will get easier to do the ears, just keep at it. Try not to feel too bad about the tear. Remember... we home test because it keeps kitties safe and shows us what they need! Not to be meanies! :) take a deep breath, give lots of pets before and after to make you both feel more at ease. Sometimes when I'm nervous I sing to Figaro a little bit while poking, and I often talk to him. Cats can sense our distress so if you are at ease (or pretend to be!) It will help him be relaxed as well.
Some people on hear apply neosporin to the ears. Figaro was bothered by it so I use a product called vetericyn to encourage healing and he tolerates that.
Do you use a lancing device? I've read that to get cats used to the sound of it, you can click it near their head a few times... not when poking, just to make it more familiar.

Thank you Liz. :) Very kind of you. I've been home testing for many years - 2 years for Max and 6 years for a diabetic cat before him, but I have not done this type of spreadsheet or had a group to discuss my findings with, only ever w/the vet -- I'm here because this cat is not regulating and I'm not sure why. Once in a blue moon when you lance, they pull or startle, and if your lance is near the edge, it tears the ear. I do not recommend putting a topical - especially the triple antibiotics - as if the cat goes ointment to paw to ingest, it can have very negative outcomes. His ear will be healed within a day. I do just feel bad any time I've caused him distress of course because he's my baby. The trembling I am asking about because it's a very odd thing and only rarely -- wondering if it has to do w/his blood sugar levels. It's in his back legs that he trembles primarily. It does tend to be on heavy testing days

Oh so sorry! You are not such a newbie to this like me

Depend on the cat and the type of meter. I have heard some say their cat's spilled sugar in the mid-high blues on a human meter. Neko's was around 220 ish.

Since you are following SLGS (could you please put that in your signature), the dose is good as long as he doesn't go below 90. Here is the link to your last post, for continuity http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/max-00cat-ps-97-then-83.217649/

Any chance of getting tests before all your shots? Max has shown in the past that he sometimes is too low to shoot at preshot time. Getting a test before bed is also very important. Many cats go lower at night and we determine how to change the dose based on those low points. Max is awfully close to the reduction point and might be doing that at night.

Here is the spot remover I use, available in fabric stores as well as on line.

Oh i am DEFINITELY a newbie! I've had lots of practice with getting the readings and providing to the vet and I know the clinical signs of hypo to watch for, and I know what unregulated "too high" looks like. However, I do NOT have experience with analysis of the data to actually get my sugar baby into the right range. I need help with this -- because what is going on with him is more than can be managed by the vet w/limited numbers anymore.

Added to signature. I tested him tonight PM Shot +3 = 96
I am running out of test strips and have had trouble finding them in the past on Amazon. I will look through the links here to see if there's a spot to buy.
I thought w/SLGS you need to hold steady for a period of time. I keep getting mixed up on which rules to follow. I will review again. Thx.
