Hi guys, haven’t posted in awhile because Velcro has been blues and greens pretty much since we lowered the dose last Sunday. He is down to 0.25 units, but usually only tests low enough to get insulin once a day at most. I know this is not recommended in this group, but unfortunately we can’t stay home in the day past the +2 reading to monitor. He hasn’t had insulin since Friday morning, so this afternoon I was quite shocked to get a reading at +7.5 of 67 and then 49. We admistered honey, a small amount of hard kitten food, and then he ate about an once of his normal food. He has been eating a drinking normal today, but what made me test him was landing a little awkwardly from the bed and then a slight wobble. I will obviously retest again in 10 more minutes, but in the meantime, what would cause him to go so low? We are almost 4 full cycles since his last 0.25 dose and before that it has been 3 cycles since the last dose.

Kitties not on insulin can test in the 40’s, we just don’t want cats on insulin there. That 49 was safe and didn’t need boosting. If you have another cat at home, try testing him or her.

Since you are skipping so much, how about trying a 0.1 unit dose next? He said I’ll has more blues, and higher ones, that a kitty that is ready for a trial without insulin. And might mean you are more comfortable shooting those numbers above 90. The longer a kitty can safely have some insulin support, the stronger the remission in our experience here.

Ahhh thank you. I will try testing one of the other cats when I can catch one lol. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. We can try a drop - maybe next weekend I can test that. I can’t be home during the week to monitor so if so shoot a lower number and then have a emergency no one will be able to intervene.
