I like pink as a color but I really would like to see a little yellow please!

Figaro is in good spirits, acting much like himself, eating well (grazing again, not inhaling meals), playing, lounging in the sun instead of in dark corners. These all seem like good signs but I am still worried he is not getting enough insulin and I wonder if he will need an increase soon.

((I was concerned about a brief period of rapid breathing yesterday and he has thrown up some liquidy stuff a few times over the last 4-5 days. Otherwise he seems okay and I continue to try to be patient.))

It’s nice to see Figaro in some lower numbers. I think that you’re right that he’s going to need an increase on curve day. :)

Dosecrease is on the table Figaro... what will you do!?

It's worth going slow, and you are doing a great job tracking and dosing. Besides that one odd reading on 7/9, his numbers are looking stable. Dose increase is justified at this point.

I probably wouldn't have skipped that dose. 116 is not a particularly low number. But that's fine, no harm done.
 
You know, I was going to say something earlier, I was thinking to myself, I would not be surprised if he came down some, not sure why I thought that. So much for an increase, you will have a reduction, lol. Honey was also in the 300s all day yesterday and tonight had a huge drop tonight. What is going on? Sometimes it just takes time for the dose to finally kick in.
 
I did decide to test +4.75 = 76. I gave him a little MC (it's normal dinner time), maybe I should have given LC?
Well anyway I gave him a little MC, he is very interested in more food, but I think I'll wait 15-30 mins to feed more or to test? Or should I feed LC?

Good thing is when they get low, they are usually hungrier..
 
Theresa likes Figaro's pic, and his name too. We still are not in hypo territory. You are doing fine.

I like Alphatrak2 as well. When Leo was with us we used the same unit for 4 years.

Hypo territory for Figaro will be 50-60, and even then - that will not be the danger zone.

When would be best to test again? An hour?

And ty I'm sure Figaro is most flattered! He used to be quite the singer, thus the name. He doesn't vocalize much these days but that's another story :)
 
Yes, another test in an hour. The 12:20 test is fine.

If you test him between 1:10am-1:25 am and he is fine, then he is fine for the night. I really don't think he's going to have a real hypo.

The rules are:
- If stable at a decent BG, 2 hours after the last food, then the hypo event is over

But he was never in the hypo range during this monitoring.

Right. I have been watching it happening with others on the board but it was still a surprise to see that first drop!

Fig only just finished his LC (he eats pretty slowly). All in all, he has only eaten about his normal evening meal. Should I 1) wait longer to test again and/or 2) give some extra regular LC food?

Oh and I also wanted to come back to your earlier post about the skipped shot just 3 cycles into the current dose, which I appreciate. In retrospect, I see it was safe to shoot, and I could have probably reached this reduction more quickly, but I'm still new at this and figuring out how to keep him safe. I've been learning so much by research and by these little experiences too!
 
Theresa and I took a drive today, in memory of Leo. It was the driving leg of the first hour of Leo's September 2016 trip for SRT (radiation) - from Austin to Ft. Collins, which gets to Lampasas TX (one hour north of Austin). We talked about all of Leo's great health achievements and wonderful life. And we made a mock stop to "check up on Leo in the back of the car". That was the sad part. We had one of his blankets with us. I stopped hourly during the 2016 trip (going there and coming back). Leo did good during the 2016 trip. It was a good trip. It gave him more life. I remember all our dreams and hopes for Leo's Acromegaly recovery from that period.

Theresa and I talked about the Acro-kittehs here too. And we talked about the regular diabetic kittehs. This forum provides life and a reservoir of hope. It really doesn't get much better than that.
 
I wouldn't worry about the skipped shot, no harm done.

The first drop is surprising. You are doing the right thing by monitoring. If everyone was like you, we wouldn't lose any cats to hypos.

Let's wait until his next test. Then if he is fine, feed him his normal food. It looks like he is a good weight, so give him a little goodie. He was a good boy tonight.

This is the primary goal of all diabetes management. My vet's advice when Leo got diagnosed with diabetes "Keep Leo safe.". You did the right thing. Over time you can find a good balance between dosing, testing, and feeding. And that balance will change over time too since our kittehs are not static.

What a lovely thing to do in memory of Leo. I have read, and been deeply moved by, many of the recent posts about Leo and I'm really glad you mentioned him here. It is so clear how much you were able to give him a good life, and how much he enriched your lives in return. Sometimes, when I'm overwhelmed with worry about Figaro and his numbers etc, I remind myself how lucky we are to have found each other so that I can take care of him, and of course he gives me so much. I guess what I mean is, your obvious love for Leo reminds me of how I feel about Figaro, and helps give me courage to give him what he needs.

And I am most grateful for your coaching and practical advice too :)

I bet Figaro is special too. Our cats can become such great soul mates.

When Leo was first diagnosed, I read a lot about diabetes. I found this site (fdmb) too. Probably after 6 months the confidence was there. You are getting there too. I'm glad I was able to help tonight on this "almost-hypo".

You can tag me whenever. Sometimes I am immersed in work. I find it hard to track all the cats here, and this subforum is so busy.

Figaro is 116 just after 1:30. Safe, but it is still low for him, and that may still reflect dinner...
 
It's bedtime for you. Figaro is perfectly safe. He will be fine.

Yes that is low for Figaro, but that is a very safe number. Give him some scratches for me, and more food if he wants it. He was a very good boy tonight. And the rest of the night he gets to sleep with his Mom!
