Sorry for all the questions lately - it's been a rough ride. So today Rocket started the day off low, I went ahead and gave his full dose because his SS is always horrible (in hindsight, a mistake). He tends to have late nadir anyway (especially at night, like +8/+10 even), and now at AM +5 he's still dropping, at 111. I realize this isn't hypo territory yet, but I'm on hypo watch anyway. I just gave him a few kibbles of leftover Hills Metabolic (which our vet prescribed at his diagnosis, and we no longer use).

Any thoughts? Anything I should do at this point? He was just diagnosed with Acro, so maybe this is just a day where his tumor is taking the day off. I tagged a couple of experienced PZers in the other thread so I won't repeat it here.

I literally JUST ordered Levemir this morning because I was assuming PZ isn't doing it for him, and with the Acro, he needs a longer acting insulin. It'll be here early next week I'm guessing.

OMG, I just tested him for his PMPS and got a 680. 680?!?!? It's late and I'm almost in tears. He has acromegaly, so really I have no way of knowing if this is a bounce, or his tumor acting up, or just the fact that he's on Prozinc and it's worn off for the day. I just ordered Levemir this morning, so I should have it by early next week. So frustrating. What's weird is he's not acting any differently really.

Anyway, we took him out for a few minutes (he's harness trained) in the cooler air, and he retested 650. Gave him his current dose (5.25), which like I said, I have no idea is the right dose or not. Sometimes I just feel like I'm so done with this. Nothing I do is right for him. :(

Rocket seems like he's trying to protect himself from those brand new blues! That high PMPS doesn't surprise me either - I know Rocket's situation is different with his acromegaly but he's still a sugar baby that can bounce from new lows like any other kitty! <3

I am sure it would be a bounce as Rocket is not used to blue numbers any more and he had a blue preshot this morning as well as during the cycle.

Thank you both, sometimes it's just overwhelming and I think I need sleep. I know you understand. What confuses me about bounces, especially now that he's been diagnosed acro, is I thought bounces meant his dose was too high? Or can it just be an adjustment period?

Bounces happen when kitties drop what their body feels is "too low", whether they're in danger or not. If Rocket's body is used to reds and blacks, and he throws a yellow or blue, his body might not be used to the idea of such a low number since high numbers are his "normal", and he'll bounce to protect himself. Bounces are also common when overdosing because again, they're dropping too low so the body bounces the BG into what it thinks are safe, normal numbers. Same principal. :)

Bounces happen when the BGLevel drops too low, too fast, or lower than kitty is used to since the diagnosis of FD. And the kitty dumps glucose and regulatory hormones into the blood stream.
Some kitties are more prone to bouncing than others.
Once kitty gets used to lower numbers they should bounce less but ECID. Controlling or slowing the drop can also help stop bounces.

Thanks. Rocket is definitely in the bounce-prone group then. For a while before his acro dx, I was thinking for sure his dose was too high. I hope switching to Levemir helps.

Thank you for helping while you're going through your own tense night. I'm looking forward to hearing how Panic is doing in the morning. This community is amazing. :)

It certainly is! I know I'm not experienced enough to help with big questions but always want to show my support. I just want to gather all FD kitties in my arms and squeeze them till they're better!

Thank you! And likewise I'll be peeking in on Rocket to see how he rides out this bounce. Starting to think we all named our cats relative to their FD journey...Rocket's high numbers and Panic's freaky cycles.

Ha! That's pretty funny actually. Rocket's under the couch at the moment, unfortunately, so I'll test in a couple hours when he usually wakes me up. :) Goodnight to you. Hope you're able to get some sleep.

Sheba was a very big bouncer and diver. I switched to Levemir and loved it. She still did the bouncing and diving but the levemir suited her better. I'm sure you will like it.
I hope so! Good to hear, thank you! :)
