Hi everyone,

I'm thrilled to be joining this group. My Rosie was diagnosed about 3mths ago and was prescribed Caninsulin which had not provided suitable control.

I look forward to learning more about how Lantus works and I hope that she responds well to it. Paws crossed!

Oh dose time adjustments are going to be a bit trickier on Lantus by the looks of things. Hopefully I won't need to do that anytime soon!

Hey there and welcome! Lantus has a learning curve for sure so the more you can read up on the yellow stickies the better. But , we are here to help you so ask questions as that is how we all learned.

Your dose Times will remain the same unless you have to stall to have a low number come up so you can safely shoot.

Oh sometimes I can't be home right on 7pm so I was able to adjust the timing of the caninsulin pretty easily, this might take a little more work.

Oh I see. There are those here that have the same issue and you just do what you can. A little late isn’t a problem but to have to shoot earlier more than 30 minutes or so could be an issue since any earlier than 30 minutes can act like a dose increase. Is moving your shot time to a different 12 hour schedule possible ?

Welcome Keryn and Rosie!

I started out on Caninsulin as well and I am much happier with Lantus so far! Looking forward to seeing your posts on the board :)

we switched about the same time you did -- glad to have you on the path with us, interesting to see how differently Lantus works, hope you get good results

Hello and welcome from another Caninsulin to Lantus (and later Levemir) user. If you know in advance you'll be late for a shot, you can move the shot time up over a few days. I had a monthly meeting that was at +11.5 so I'd start moving the shot 15 minutes up per shot before hand.

A question for you - any particular reason you started on 1.5 units? Typically we take the dose of the previous insulin into consideration, and Rosie was barely seeing blues on 3.5 units of Caninsulin. A dose closer to 3 units of Lantus might have been a better starting point.

One more thing, I see your signature says feeding twice a day. With Lantus, no hurry to get food into her, so you can feed multiple meals, which is actually easier on the pancreas.
