This was the first time that I ever used Karo syrup. I gave about 1 teaspoon with 16% food, he zoomed up within 20 minutes and he seems to be maintaining his BG. Does the syrup stay in their system or is it just a quick fix? I thought it was a quick fix and that he would have come down by now.

Syrup is the quick fix, doesn't stay that long. Food last longer. He is starting to come back down at that +4.

Thank you! I just thought that he would have come back down quicker. I'm glad I experienced today the use of the syrup. At least I know he reacts real quick to the syrup. Does honey work as well too?

Honey is good also; I use maple syrup! Sugar wears off very quickly; if he's not eating too much, you can rub the gums with the syrup (careful for your fingers)!

How much maple syrup do you give? I gave 1 teaspoon,think it was too much?
 
If numbers are under 40 without symptoms: you can mix 1 teaspoon of syrup with food. Ti-Mousse doesn't like syrup too much so if I mix it with his food, he won't eat it! Rubbing it on his gums does the trick ! Between 40 and 60, I just give higher carb food; but if he doesn't eat, I'll give syrup again!
 
I always used karo and usually just 1-2 mls of it. A tsp is 5 mls. That’s a lot of syrup along with HC food. You have to be careful because it can stop his duration cold.

Thank you for telling me......I did stop his duration cold turkey today! But I'm glad I experimented with the karo syrup. This was the first time that I used it. I know it is to be used when the BG is under 40 but he had such a big drop and I always have a problem bringing up his BG# when he drops so low. Boy oh boy.....he really reacted quickly to the syrup. I must have given approx 1 teaspoon of karo and then I gave him the 16% carb food. The 16% carb food usually works VERY VERY slowly on him so I know it was the syrup that made him go sky rocket high. So now I know how he reacts to the syrup and next time I will give much less. I'll try a 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml).

He did pretty good for himself after I messed up his duration. His high, that I know of, was at PS. If it wasn't for me he would have had a green cycle. Thats ok....he is getting even with me now. I hope I get some sleep tonight and he flattens out.
