911 Cat in DKA need advice

My cat has spent the last 2 days, 2 nights at the vet with DKA. Treatment has been IV fluids, short acting insulin. xrays didn't show anything suspicious I am looking for her labs. Readings have been in the 300. She hasn't eaten but was force fed a about an hour ago and she kept it down while I was there (going back in a little bit). they gave her an enema. she is very lethargic but I can hear her motor, very low. she picked up her head when the office cat walked in.
 
I’m so sorry Lola is sick. Treatment for DKA is insulin, food and fluids as well as treatment for any underlying conditions, so it sounds like your vet is on top of things. Did he mention any infections?
 
You might take some of her favorite foods with you when you go back to visit....sometimes they'll eat for us when they won't for strangers.

Getting her to eat will be one of the big steps in getting her home!!

Also, a cat in DKA needs more calories than "normal", so it's not so important that you feed only low carb....whatever you can get her to eat is more important right now

I’m so sorry your kitty has been so ill but it sounds as if Lola is getting the best care.
While you are waiting for her to come home, you could get prepared for her return.
Do you have any Ketostix strips to test for ketones in the urine? You will need to be testing for them daily in the beginning. They can be bought from a pharmacy or Walmart for about $10.
Also ask the vet for a large syringe in case you need to syringe feed in the beginning. Also ask the vet about some recovery food for Lola.
Buy a selection of canned foods including some higher carb foods which you think she will like. In the beginning when they get home, when they aren’t eating much, sometimes giving them some higher carb food allows the insulin to be given. Look for some higher calorie food as well.
Also ask the vet if it would be good for you to give subQ fluids at home and get him to show you how to do them.
