Hey! Not an expert here but thought I’d offer my two cents and give this post a bump. :)

This is a quick drop ... If it were Mowgli what I would do is feed him a couple teaspoons of low carb food, go to sleep and set an alarm for 2 hours later or so to do a quick test. I personally don’t think Smokey is at the point where you have to watch him like a hawk :)

Julie, the 156 is not a low BG, the insulin dose is just working is all. Many cats go lower at night, and it's great that you are being so vigilant.
It's not a 911 situation, 50 is the take action number with the human meter, just read AmandaE post..good advice.

Thank you. I'll change it . I'm not used to seeing blue numbers

So I'm curious .. when I'm doing the evening shot its 10pm my time.. when should I be testing him in the evening? Is there a safest time ? I feel like I have been getting no sleep .

Also .. is it common for cats to hypo ? That's like my biggest fear

I feel like I remember that you said you have to do your schedule 10/10 because of work... is that right? 10pm would definitely make it more exhausting to grab a +2.

If you’re able to do Smokey’s amps / PMPS a little earlier it might save you some exhaustion but I don’t think it’s more or less safe for Smokey.

The important part is at least grabbing a before bed test, general advice around here is grabbing a +2. If the +2 is the same or higher than your PMPS then go to bed! If it’s way lower you might want to grab more tests throughout the night.

With kids this must be SO exhausting for you. I can’t imagine. I really need a lot of sleep so when I need to I monitor Mowgli by setting alarms on my phone.

This is tough work, Smokey is so lucky to have a mom who takes such great care of him :)

So you are injecting at 10 AM and 10 PM? You should always test pre-shot, then if you can at night, at least a before bed test. Is this because of your work schedule? If the shot times aren't working for you, you can work on gradually adjusting the shot time.
No, it isn't common for cats to hypo, but it does happen, nor is is unusual to see low numbers, especially when you are new and finding the right dose. You haven't even approached a hypo situation with Smokey. I know it's a big scary thing, but you have the information and hopefully your Hypo toolbox prepared, just in case. Print out those hypo instructions and tape them to an inside cupboard door, or tuck into the Hypo kit. Then, whatever happens, you are prepared, you won't get taken by surprise.
Get some sleep and rest well. You are an excellent pet parent and you need rest to take care of Smokey and yourself.
