6/7 Phoebe Squeak wearing Freestyle Libre Meter -- Dose change? Answered, Thanks!

Hi, Phoebe Squeak got a Freestyle Libre meter yesterday and the doctor told me not to change the insulin dose without contacting her. Phoebe Squeak's BG went down to 48 yesterday (human meter numbers) so I gave her med carb food and contacted the doctor. I still have not heard back after trying several times to reach her. To me it looks like P.S. is bouncing today because of that low number yesterday and she needs a dose decrease. I'm hoping someone will tell me what they would do in this situation. Any and all advice appreciated.
I've been trying to follow TR protocol.
Thanks!

Hi, I don't give dose advice and am not familiar with that meter, but will offer what I was told...We take dose reductions because they are a safety measure...If your cat earned a dose reduction, we take the reduction because that dose is too high for the cat at this time.
I hope someone gets back to you soon, with love, nikki

Thanks...Phoebe's a cutie too :) I haven't been following your threads so don't know if you're double checking the libre's results with a normal meter? I know a while ago one or two people tried the libre, and I *think* there was some question as to timing and/or accuracy? But I don't know, so don't quote me on that lol...Might look into it if you haven't, though.
With love, nikki

Phoebe got a lime green yesterday (48), you did great in bringing her up with MC.
I would say, she has earned a dose reduction as per TR protocol; the pink is probably a bounce from that lime, but I'm not a dosing expert! Someone will probably confirm what to do!
  • If kitty drops below 40 (long term diabetic) or 50 (newly diagnosed diabetic) reduce the dose by 0.25 unit. If kitty has a history of not holding reductions well or if reductions are close together... sneak the dose down by shaving the dose rather than reducing by a full quarter unit. See additional notes in the next paragraph about drops into the 20s and 30s. Alternatively, at each newly reduced dose... try to make sure kitty maintains numbers in the normal range for seven days before reducing the dose further.
Hope she gets use to her new meter; wonder how long it takes before having it changed!:)

Thanks. It's supposed to last 14 days, but we will see. Enjoy your weekend and please say hello to Ti-Mousse from P.S.

I would give the reduction. Her new dose would be 1.25. I can't remember what was written about the libre meter for the kitties here on the forum, maybe some others will weigh in. But I would give the reduction.
