Vet visit! Panic read at 504 this morning on Alphatrak in case anyone was wondering. We did a fructosamine test which read as "normal" but after the vet told me that we kind of set it aside and started looking at her spreadsheet. Last Friday I had emailed her some concerns I had about the curve I had done that day (went up to 700s and stayed high all day) so we talked about that.
Vet said that with some of these numbers (like the random 450s number in the middle of the day) could be more from just getting a reading at a bad time (?), she said curves aren't always the ideal textbook curve but more of a roller coaster throughout the day, with peaks and valleys so MAYBE that's what that number meant she said. She also acknowledged the "consistently inconsistent" numbers make her think that there's something wrong with the insulin - like maybe we left it out on accident or it got shaken instead of rolled, etc. It was then that I told her that the Vetsulin vial I had specified to shake and NOT roll it and she said that was weird and she was going to call while I was there to confirm...and I'm just now realizing she forgot LOL.
It was then though when she mentioned potentially getting a new vial that I would rather change her to Prozinc, to at least remove one variable of "is it lasting" in order to get her regulated and she agreed. I then told her where I could order it and she said to go ahead and do that and she'd approve it when they contacted for the prescription, and that Panic should come back in a month after we've started the Prozinc, so it looks like she's letting me start the dose and have me monitor how it's doing and report back to her. ^-^ I think that's all we covered, I totally forgot to ask about feeding syringes or anti-nausea meds but I am going back tomorrow anyway because my dachshund needs her cytopoint shot and her nails done. I also briefly told her about the incident that happened last Sunday after she asked why I was "up so late" at 1am checking her numbers, and told her I was checking based on the advice from the FD forum.
I think we also talked about the variables that could be going on with her - like was Panic outside catching mice or eating something she shouldn't (extremely unlikely I told her) or was I giving fur shots, which I then told her I definitely was here and there, and to be honest I think it's mainly how thin her skin is. This morning I checked after I poked her and could feel the needle had gone right through her skin, so I was able to correct that this time. I'm pretty much never able to "tent" the skin because there just isn't enough to work with. So basically we agreed there was probably a lot going on but we're going to switch to Prozinc to at least rule one issue out!
Panic also tried to bite the vet tech when she removed the bandage from her leg (warning bite, she does it a lot haha) and when the vet was in and talking to me she was talking with her hands and Panic got mad and swatted at her. XD The vet told her, "I'm starting to see you're acting more like what I've heard about" LOL, because the vet techs all think she's adorable but I've warned them when she feels more like herself she's a bit of a no-nonsense girl XDD
@AliceMeowliss&Cassandra I've been considering getting a baby scale for her, just not sure where I'd keep it! That would be really helpful to keep track though, I'm super delighted to see how much she's gained, even if it is just a small amount.
@Tanya and Ducia OH! Yes, I meant to tell you! I managed to catch her last night and was able to get a reading, it showed up the same as before, a shade between Negative and Trace! I didn't think to mention it to the vet though. O:
I'll be visiting the Prozinc forum today for advice on starting her, I am so excited!! <3 <3
