Her nadir last night was a massive 520 so this morning with a pink start we gave her normal dose and she just dropped to 37. Gave her some dry kibble and rubbed her gums with some syrup and retested after 15 mins and it is now 74. Gave her a teaspoon of HC dry food because she will not eat HC wet. She is acting ok. We are outside, she is alert and calm. Retested her and she up to 164. Did I over compensate?

I personally would not have given the HC after the 74, with giving dry and syrup, as long as she is above 50, because the dry takes longer to get into her system

Great job catching it

She ended up not eating it after all so I took it away. I can only tell by looking at her eyes as they get glassy, because her behaviour was normal.

What I can do? Shall I take to the ER? Give her some water? She had her shot one hour ago and its going up instead of down. She only had 1/8 wet food FF.

I am not experienced enough to advise, sorry, but I am looking around for someone who might. Can you see if you can get a urine/ketone test and see what's happening there. This "may" be a bounce from the low BG before, hang in there.

Well, I guess I don't know what else to say other than what was mentioned yesterday http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/mimi-5-24-amps-98-pmps-441.214840/ and in previous post the day before. 0.25u is too high for your cat. Period. Full stop. A 37 on AT2 is serious business. Yet tonight you shot 0.25u again. She is actually flat tonight, yes indeed high because as mentioned before, she has attrocious bouncing going on.

There is not much you can do about the high numbers, she has proven she comes down so you will just need to wait it out. I'll say again, please take the reduction tomorrow. My greatest fear for you is she'll hit 37 again or lower, in the near future and she won't be able to come up, no matter what you do.

I told my husband as he is the only one who can get near her these days and he said he can't see past the .25 even with a magnifying glass.. I will keep an eye on her all night and I will make him do the 0.1. thank you and sorry. I am listening..

I didn't mean to come across so abruptly, I'm just very worried for you, I don't like seeing such low numbers.

For dosing, try drawing up 0.5u, then slowly and lightly twist the syringe until you get to 0.25u, then slowly twist out until another drop or two which you should see appearing on the tip of the needle. Then call that 0.1u. Can you feed her again around +2 or +3. She is high for the moment, but the next dose hasn't kicked in yet. I know the high numbers are worrisome, but we need to find a way to flatten these cycles out.

It is ok.. I wish I could just do it myself but MIMI is too aggressive and he is the only one who has ever being able to handle her, but I love her just as much and he just has to listen because this is starting to be unbearable.. :(

You'll get there, I know this can be very hard, I'm lucky my Mav isn't aggressive with either the shots or tests, but I realize the situation you have is very stressful. Glad she has come back down now for +2, did she snack on anything? If she has some appetite, let's see if you can give her a snack at +3. Do you have a higher low carb food, like something 8-9%? Then maybe another higher LC snacks at +5 with a test? I'm thinking if you can feed a bit earlier in the cycle here, since the numbers are coming down, then that might keep her from dropping again later this cycle. What do you think? Is that doable for you? It is a bit of an experiment with the food.

I have some FF Grilled wet food that I could give her and I have the Dr Elseys kibble that she likes which runs at about 8%.
I can try those and retest at +5 or do I retest at +3 as well?

With the troubles testing, maybe let's give her a breather, test at +5. I'm a bit leary of the kibble, you'd be better off to mix some grilled with your LC to make a higher LC wet combo.

Great job getting additional tests last night! I see +9 209, so it looks like the higher LC slowed her down. Did you feed at +6 or +9? It would be good to keep notes of feeding on your SS so you can see what worked. This am, please try your best to squeeze out those few drops from 0.25u. What I do is I draw up the extra insulin, then I open the fridge and hold the syringe using that light so I can see better as I gently twist the drops out to get to my dose.

I'd feed your higher LC mix again at preshot, then offer this food at +1, +2 and +3. Depending on what her preshot is, you may not need to get a +1, but I'd suggest a +2 or +3 to get ahead of any dropping she may do, but am hoping this higher LC will keep her flatter again this morning.

Will do right now. I will update the SS as well and start a new thread. Her +11 was 109
Thanks so much!!
Wow, I just read through this thread -- such a wild ride! I am new so I can't really advise, but I did just purchase a magnifying glass that has a smaller circle inside that is 11x magnification. That's what I use now (plus calipers -- suggested on this site) for the very small doses. I'll try to paste the link below. Hang in there!
