Another Beautiful Sunny day! Kitties are doing good. Peggy Sue was in an especially playful mood. She got me up at 7 this morning wanting to go out.
So of course I sat outside with the 3 of them while they nibbled grass & watched 2 tiny Hummers chasing each other at the feeders.

I always heard Hummingbirds prefer Red,I have 2 red feeders & 1 Orange The hummer checks each one & always chooses the Orange one? He's very pretty iridescent Green! But he's a Bully!
A little brown female comes every morning but he's very aggressive & chases her away! I read the the "Rufous" Hummingbird is very territorial & has a BAD temper!

how is peggy sue's mouth

Her chin is still swollen but it's amazing she's in a very good mood. Playing & eating good. I can only attribute it to giving her the CBD Oil. She lost a lot of weight & is so thin. Her hip bones are sticking out!

I found a dental specialists in Chicago. ( I'm so worried about having her tooth pulled in her condition. ( Marje had an anesthesiologist there when her cat had dental. That's the dangerous part when they're under anesthesia!)

They charge $1.000 for the exam, consultation & cleaning! If they need to pull one tooth it's oral surgery, $2,000. If you want the anesthesiologist to review everything before the surgery that cost extra. And he will only be in the room briefly while the surgery is being done.
Oh & they want a complete blood work up 2 weeks before surgery! ( another $300) Looking at nearly $3,000 :arghh: I love my kitties but I just don't have that kind of money .
I've even been thinking of taking out a home equity loan but I've heard bad stories that there are ways they can call in the loan & if you can't pay they can take your house!

You need to be wealthy to take care of your animals now days!!:(

Do you think you could get your hands on some antibiotics and just try that without incurring the extra costs? I don't really know a lot about dental but that really seems like so much money when maybe it could just be an infection.

I just took bella to my vet, 250 to pull and clean

Wish u had some antibiotics, will ur vet give u some for her

get your hands on some antibiotics

I'm giving her Clavamox 2 X a day for 10 days. Her lower back molar looks really bad & her chin is swollen. She's eating good but not gaining weight. Something else may be going on? Even if the infection goes away the tooth needs to come out.
Because she's nearly 17 & so thin I'm scared she won't make it thru any dental procedure.

I know any vet can pull a tooth but I'm worried she'll die under the anesthesia that's why Marje had an anesthesiologist present during her kitties dental !

Ahhh I didn't realize clavamox was an anti-biotic

I completely understand your concern, It might be worth the risk though in case the swelling is a bad infection... Not an easy decision for sure :(

Do you think her weight loss could just be due to old age and muscle wasting?

CLAVAMOX (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid) - the #1 prescribed veterinary antibiotic. Used to treat 50 million cats and dogs in the last decade.

Her weight loss came on quickly in a few weeks. I've had cats live into their 20's & never had one get this thin. The vet thinks she has cancer. The infected tooth is just an added problem.:(

Hi joy, I don't know if you got my reply to your question on Willows apt with the dental specialist...Didn't want you to think I didn't answer. It's not just just the period she's under anaesthetic she's at risk (although that's definitely a risk); if there are other things going on health wise, the anaesthetic/dentistry may push them over the edge so she declines afterwards..Better explained how I understand it (as the specialist explained it)in my previous response. With love, nikki

@nslade001
I don't know how I missed that? Thank you.
Did willow lose weight? I'm very worried about Peggy Sue's weight loss. She is eating just fine now ( i"m sure it's because of the CBD Oil she gets) But shows no sign of gaining back the weight.

Also as I mentioned her chin is swollen on that side. She actually eats her Raw meat & doesn't show any indication of pain . I cut it up in tiny pieces & she could probably just swallow it ,but i see her chewing it. I tried ground meat & pureeing it but she won't eat it that way.

Her back molar looks terrible & under her tongue it's bright red by the tooth. She did NOT want me touching her mouth so it must hurt on that side!

I don't know if antibiotic will even help if the tooth is abscessed. I read the abscess needs to be drained & antibiotic injected into the area. I do not know what to do!!

I'm really shocked how much money it would cost to even do the dental? And then to think she could die from the anesthesia!!! I am so overwhelmed

I completely understand. Willow's quote was just under $4000 Cdn taxes in, assuming no extra work, and not including the $200 exam fee we paid. It's an unbearable situation.

I'm just grateful it's not a medical necessity for Willow... Dentistry would be good, she should have a dental, but she doesn't need one.

Definitely try the antibiotics, I would also strongly recommend a painkiller as well because dental infections/abscesses *do* hurt. I honestly don't know if that would do the job for Peggy Sue, though.

Another alternative might be an in-and-out out surgery... Just *that* tooth extracted and x-rayed, nothing else touched. I don't know if the vet would consider that, but there should be *some* cost savings (less hourly rate for all involved, less time under anaesthetic) but there's still a lot of base fees that won't change. And of course it won't help any other issues she might be having, and there's still the risk of anaesthesia...But the time under anaesthetic would be greatly reduced, if that's what you're most worried about. Just a thought.

Also, Willow hasn't lost weight. We're still trying to get her to drop the pound she picked up (we overfed her in the beginning of her diabetic journey)and for a sometimes inappetent cat she's clinging to it tightly!

I hope you come to a decision you are comfortable with. With love, nikki

Definitely try the antibiotics

She's been on the antibiotic for just 2 days now. I give her CBD Oil & it's supposed to help with pain. It must be working for her because she's very playful especially in the morning & she's eating good.

I'll just wait & see when she's done with the meds & my vet sees her. Then I'll decide what to do.

Thanks Nikki :bighug:

@Ti-Mousse
Hey Lyane, Thanks for "liking" the quote in my post! I try to find things funny or at least interesting. I wonder if no one reads it or maybe they just don't like it?

You know Joy, if you take the time to choose a quotation or a thought for the day, I will definetely take the time to read them all; sometimes, some are really written for me....!! :p I like it, it's refreshing and make you stop and think !! It's special, you're the only one doing this and I hope you'll keep on ! :)
I wonder if no one reads it or maybe they just don't like it?
First, you can't please everybody and sometimes unfortunately, people are in a hurry and just go straight to the post, but it doesn't mean that they won't read it another day when they have more time ! :bighug:

I read all of them also Joy, there's much truth in a lot of those little posters and I look forward to them :bighug: BTW, I disagree with today's, I do need sleep, I wish I could sleep for 3 days straight!!! LOL
I'm really sorry about the dilemma you're in with Peggy Sue, poor little kitty and so hard for you. I wish some of the specialists would donate a bit of their time to help with situations like this.
