at the thrift store yesterday, I bought a quart-sized sharps container for 99 cents (I'd been using a metal vacuum style coffee mug with a lid, it was getting full)

bundled with it was an Arkray Assure Platinum meter !

a little research later, I found these are commonly used in nursing homes and similar professional venues, they require .5 ml blood samples, and the pictured strips look a great deal like the ones for my ReliOn Prime (the Prime is also mfg by Arkray, then rebranded by Walmart)

will have to contact Arkray and see if these take the same test strips (if the Arkray Assure strips will fit the Prime or vice versa ?)

not a bad idea to have a backup for my backup, right? and the price was right ....

there were several packs of lancets as well (I have enough already) and a zippered case for a OneTouch mini, will have to keep checking back to see if other supplies show up -- there were syringes too, but they were LuerLok type which I'm not familiar with, and nearly at retail price for the ones I use

Nice score!

I have 2 Advocate PetTest glocometers; I purchased a starter kit, and when I went to get more test strips I got a free starter kit for buying 2 packs of test strips.

I still have the AlphaTrak 2 that came bundled with the kitty when we got her.

Now I am looking for a human glucometer, since I am going to go broke on test strips, but I can hold out for a good deal, since I have a backup backup

You can use human freestyle insulinx strips with the Alphatrak

Yay for deals! Instead of sharps container, I found this wonderful thing from members here: https://www.adwdiabetes.com/product/1246/bd-safe-clip-needle-storage-device
I still haven't filled the first one :woot:.

sounds like a deal if I find I need to dispose of used needles/syringes another way -- at the moment, I can leave them off with vet, with local independent pharmacy, or with Kaiser ...

the sharps container I got is mostly for convenience, I'm not going to seal it up and ship it off, it's merely an easier way to corral the used syringes and lancets since I'm using more than my original container will hold -- and it's clearly marked what it's for
