CBD Oil for arthritis?

Anyone have experience with CBD Oil for treating arthritis in cats? Max has arthritis in his hips. We've let it go for quite some time because until recently it only slowed him down but seem to bother him otherwise. He has CRF, so my vet won't give most pain meds.

We have recently tried Adequan. It appears to cause more problems than it solves for him. We're only 2 doses in, but I'm going to call the vet and let her know we're stopping. He vomits his food up, we've had diarrhea, and he's started peeing in the bathroom again. The vomiting has affected his BG, causing a dose drop that hasn't been terrible, but hasn't been good either. When his numbers come up out of the greens, he's peeing in the bathroom, which is one of the issues we were hoping the Adequan would help, not worsen.

So...food suppliment options are also being explored, but I think we need pain management. He's 17. He sleeps on the couch all day, we've moved a litter box to the main floor of the house so he doesn't have to go to the basement anymore, and I've had stairs built up to the feeding table (we have dogs, so food is kept up where they can't get into it). He used to sleep with us at night, but the bed is too high for him to jump now and there isn't anywhere I can put stairs in for him that won't cause a human to kill themselves in the middle of the night.

Admittedly I don't know much about CBD oil, how to use it, where to purchase it, or what it might (or might not) do for him. Anyone have any good sources of info? Any experience to share?
 
I live in Portland and our local pet stores sell CBD pet products. Supposedly they can be shipped if they don’t contain THC. Never tried it, but I’m interested to know more.
 
My Willow is 17 and has stiff back legs. I give her Canna-Pet as well as a supplement called 1-TDC that is for periodontal and joint health. (I do have stairs for her to get to the higher places she likes.) It sounds like Max has more severe issues, but I wanted to share anyway. I know a lot of people here use CBD oil. There have been several posts about it. You may want to do some searching on the forum while waiting to get responses here.

No stairs for the bed--there is no way to arrange it that humans won't end up tripping over them. The stairs I have for the feeder are custom-built. I'm an exhibit designer and had the guys in the shop build me some so they'd fit the height of the table and fit out of the way under the dining room window. Most commercially available sets are too wide for my stupidly small dining room, so the ones I had built are only 8" wide.

My vet talked to Cornell University about CBD oil. They are now testing it on cats. ( Nearly ALL drugs are tested on dogs but not cats)

My Vet is giving it to his dog that has severe arthritis, he said he definitely notices an improvement. The only other brand of CBD that Cornell recommends is ElleVet Feline. https://ellevetsciences.com/products/feline-oil (this is the one my Vet uses)

There's a whole lot of CBD on the internet you need to be careful what you order. The 2 I mentioned are expensive but I trust the People that make it.

I only give my cat 3 drops a day. It definitely helps to get them eating if they're off their food. It's also good for pain & just puts them in a better mood.

I'd read about the ElleVet brand feline oil on a Cornell site before, but apparently the taste is really unpalatable to cats and most people have to put the drops into a gelcap and pill them. Is that true of the Charlotte 's web brand as well? How do you administer the drops?

I get Earths' Best Organic Turkey baby food from Whole Food store. I mix a teaspoon of the baby food with a bit of water & 3 drops of Paws CBD OIL.I put it in a feeding syringe. I've tasted the CBD & it doesn't have much of a taste to me. All 3 of my cats get it every morning.( it states it's for dogs because it hasn't been tested on cats. Hardly any meds have been tested on cats)

It also states the dose is 1/2 of a dropper for a small dog. I spoke to people about giving it to a cat & they said to start out slow with only a drop or 2. I've been wondering about this too and frankly there's SO many products and SO many rules, depending on where you live! I like to think that I'm a smart person, that I "get it" eventually but this.... ugh.

Fena, my last remaining cat and my OTJ baby is getting arthritis - she still moves okay, I've had steps, etc. for her in place for a long time now but I've noticed she's hesitant now so I'd like to help, and try this for her.

My problem is, I have NO idea if it's okay for me to buy products and have them shipped to Ohio, since my state is still mostly anti-cannabis products or derivatives.

The worry about reprisals has kept me away from researching too much and I hate that.

Any help or insight..?
 
I’d call the company you want to buy from. They ought to know about shipping. Otherwise.... maybe you know someone traveling to a state where these products are sold.
