I have been giving Jake his injections at 7 and 7 to fit in with my work. Tomorrow I have to travel farther than usual and just realised I will have to leave home by 6:25 tomorrow morning. I have no one else that can give it to him. I know it is not good but should it be ok?

What insulin is he on? I can't speak to all of them but with Caninsulin/Vetsulin you can give it up to hour earlier or an hour later. I have to leave for work early on a Monday so Little B gets his 30 to 45 minutes earlier and he's absolutely fine.

Are you testing before the shot? Your reading will tell you if it is safe. I have never had an issue with giving insulin a little early or late. But the best way to determine if it ok is by testing.

Lantus can be given up to a half hour early with little effect. That being said, however, there have been times when I've had to shoot a bit early and dropped his dose .25U because his preshot number was low and I was going to be gone too long to properly monitor. Generally speaking with Lantus, tho, dropping the dose like that is not recommended because they still operate off the depot and it won't affect the current shot cycle. This is definitely a situation where you need to know your cat.

It won't be the end of the world. In the end what we're all looking for is consistency and sometimes life gets in the way. My medical advice would be "try not to make it a habit". When it's happened to me or when daylight savings changes everything you can just ease back into your regular schedule 5 or 10 minutes a cycle.

Took way too many pricks (need to get better at this) but was able to get a result of 12.3. Have given him injection and am on way to work so hopefully he will be ok. Thank u so much everyone!
