5/10 Rumpy AMPS 221 +5 275 PMPS 334 +2 286 +6 281

Must be in the water! Mowgli usually doesn't care but today... he's some sort of teenager trying to escape... get a grip Mowg!

+5 275
Had to semi wrap rumpy again for testing. He just jolts his had around and messes the test up some times.

Oh wow! How long has Mowgli been diabetic?
I think much longer than he was diagnosed, but he was just diagnosed at the beginning of March. He's usually really good for me when I'm taking a blood glucose reading but he was not feeling it this morning.

I feel bad for Mr Rumps... get on board Rumpy! this is for your own good and it hardly even hurts!

In the mean time... I'm sure a Rumpy Purrito is soooo cute!

Oh wow yeah I feel the same about rumpy. I noticed signs but didn’t really think about diabetes :/

Rumpy has been doing his best to adjust to all of it. He just gets irritated mostly when his numbers are high and he’s hungry. His hind legs are beginning to bother him too. Rumpy was diagnosed in March of this year too.

Do you think his back legs could be due to diabetic neuropathy? if so a lot of care givers on the forum use Zobaline with really great results. And if his bg levels even out I think that there is very good record of cats recovering from it too!

Hopefully Rumps and Mowg get it together so that we don't have to worry about it anymore :).

Sorry Rumpy is giving you trouble with testing. I hope he settles down for you. I hope the yellow today means blue tonight.

With neuropathy he'd be more likely to be walking on his hocks. If he just has an unsteady or weak gait, that could be muscle wasting. :\

Not necessarily.
Sheba had diabetic neuropathy and didn't walk on her hocks. She had back leg weakness and unsteady gait and her legs would slide from under her on a wooden surface if she stopped or sat down. She also lost the ability to jump. But with Zobaline and improved BSLs she eventually regained the full use of her legs and her jumping ability.

Sorry for the misinformation then. Honestly Alice is sliding, can no longer jump, holds a wide stance, and in particular has had an unsteady gait for months, but I was told by the vet she would be leaning back further on her hocks if it was in fact neuropathy. How can you tell if it's muscle loss or neuropathy then?

Glad to see you increased tonight.....but I'd plan on getting 1 more test in....that's a pretty good drop at +2

Hopefully you'll get Rumpy's attention on this dose!!

It’s storming again so I’m expecting his numbers to be high in the morning. His hind legs have been flaring up, but now they are constantly giving him issues. He can still jump on the couch and everything. Just seems like his gait has changed and he walks more flat than usual.

@AliceMeowliss&Cassandra
My vet thought it was something else too but didn’t know what. Once I joined FDMB and learned about giving Zobaline and Sheba’s BSLs improved, her symptoms improved too. It was slow but it eventually resolved. I remember how excited I was when she jumped onto the bed after so long.
Alice sounds very like Sheba was. Are you giving Zobaline? Once her numbers start to stay lower, you should see improvement. At the moment she is getting nice green numbers then bouncing high. It takes time though but the neuropathy should get better.
Sorry to hijack you post @MrRumps

Sorry for post hijack too Shelly. :b
No, I honestly don't know anything yet about zobaline. Is a vet prescribed drug? A supplement? I receive DCIN assistance and am low-income. But I will try anything that can help her feel better. Move to DM for further replies? Or @Bron and Sheba I'll tag you on my next post.

Sorry Rumpy's mom. Moving out of your condo. :cat:

I am actually curious about this too!! Rumpys legs are changing so I want to help him. :(

Well then no hijack, it is!

How long has Rumpy been different with his legs? I noticed Alice's gait was off months ago, but my vet and I discussed it and it was not suggested that it was neuropathy. However, she seems to sit a little lower but still on the pads of her feet. She doesn't jump anymore. She used to clear a baby gate sharply and beautifully. Not at all right now.

Zobaline is MethylB12 (not the same as the vitamin B injection you can get at the vet) and is a little tablet which you can sprinkle on food. It has no taste. The vets do not carry it and a prescrition is not needed. Vets often have not heard of it.
It can be bought from lifelink or amazon. Sold as Zobaline for cats. There are other brands around but you need to be careful of the other ingredients added.
It is not an immediate fix but helps over time, along with a reduction in the BSLs.
