Advice needed soon if possible --When to shoot Phoebe Squeak

Phoebe Squeak had a low AMPS number this morning -- 71 on pet (AlphaTrak) meter and 52 on Freedom Freestyle Lite meter so I waited till after she ate breakfast and her numbers were going up to give her the shot. I think it was a fur shot because her numbers are SHOOTING up much higher than normal. Should I give the next shot early? Now? Or wait at least 11 hours from what must have been a fur shot. Any advice appreciated. I'm new. Thanks!

9 and 1/2 hours
I would recommend waiting until her regular shot time, though preferably 12 hours after am shot. An early shot may act like a dose increase. If you have some flexibility with your times, you can move it back to regular time in half hour increments.

When you suspect a furshot never give more insulin before next shot is due. You can not guarantee how much insulin made it in.

While you wait, if you could read the stickies about dosing protocols, that will help you to answer the questions that you will be asked.

It is better to be too high for a day than too low for a minute.

Have you been doing any testing in evenings? Many cats drop lower overnight, and that could be why she is so high right now. The liver panics when sugars drop too low causing a release of stored sugars.

Thanks. I have not been testing after her PM shot. But her PMPS numbers (which are usually around this time) have been mostly pink and now she's a few points from black. I appreciate your insight.

It is highly recommended to get at least a +2 in evening to get an idea how she will be overnight. It will give you a better idea how a dose is effecting her, which will let you make dosing decisions easier. You are only seeing half the picture right now.
Lantus is dosed based on how low your cat gets during the cycles- not based on preshot values. I hope some more experienced members will reply before your evening shot, but if not, I suggest giving 1u, as she likely dropped low enough overnight to earn the reduction.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. You are right -- I should test after pm shot to get a better picture of things.
I can't see a new thread for today, I just looked at the ss and saw she is at 104 at +4, I would get another test in at +5 or right away if it's gone past that time. She may still drop further.

Thank you.
She was pretty steady on Sunday but has gone up again since. She had a vet visit yesterday which is always something that raises her BG. Just looked at George's SS. CONGRATS!!! Hope Phoebe Squeak can join him OTJ sometime soon.

Yes she had a nice long time in blue on Sunday, that appears to have triggered a bounce, this can happen when the spend longer than they are used to in a lower range, dropping fast or dropping to a number lower than they are used to can also trigger a bounce.

Did you shoot on 5/6 in the evening? there's no dose showing on the ss.
With that blue start on 5/7 in the morning it looks like either she cleared the bounce on the evening of 5/6 or she was clearing the bounce as you shot on the morning of 5/7. Either way I suspect that in either the pm cycle of 5/6 or am cycle of 5/7 she went lower again. That 394 at pmps 5/7 looks like the start of another bounce.

I think she looks like she is going to clear this second bounce either this morning or tonight. Are you able to get some spot checks in this am cycle? or this evening ? (at least a before bed test)

Which dosing method are you following? TR or SLGS

Thanks so much for your help with Phoebe Squeak! Yes, I did give her evening shot on 5/6. Thanks for pointing out that I forgot to put it on the SS. I'm pretty sure yesterday's PMPS was not a bounce, but a reaction to being at the vet, which is actually where the PMPS value was measured. It's very close to her PMPS time now so a spot check probably won't help much, but I will get a check this evening at +2. I just recently found this site and after reading over the info, I think I'd like to do the TR protocol. Which one did you do with George?

I'm pretty sure yesterday's PMPS was not a bounce,
It could have been both.

George gets high numbers at the vet too, usually he came back down within a few hours.

PMPS time now so a spot check probably won't help much,
a +11 can still be useful (of course it might be after that):)
Which one did you do with George?
I did/do TR, as after reading all the info I felt it was the best chance I could give him of going into remission. He fell out of remission just recently due to a steroid shot, he's on just a drop of insulin now, hoping we can get him back OTJ soon.

It's late for me, midnight, (I'm in Spain) so I'm just signing off. Nite Nite.:)
