Hello - my kitty was diagnosed a few weeks ago. His numbers have been border line diabetic and today was the final curve to decide whether or not to start insulin. I'm going to attach my numbers for today so far (I have one more reading to do). Hes always high in the morning because I cant do his test until after eating due to him being so frantic to eat . He is very anxious and excited in the mornings for some reason. So that number always seems to be high. After that he usually spikes to 200-300 right after eating and then 2 hours or so after eating down to 120-190 (these are his averages over the last few weeks) .
Also he eats more than he should be and we are working on that .. currently eating 5 cans of fancy feast spread out through the day
Let me know what you guys suggest !

Those numbers are not terribly high, some vets would even put that as pre diabetic, which is good, may have an easier go of getting regulated quickly and hopefully into remission, paws crossed.:)

You may want to link this post to Lantus forum for some more eyes also.

I agree getting started earlier may help but I am curious if you have tried straight diet change first? It's better to change to low-carb diet before starting insulin :). What is his feeding schedule? (specifically what times is he being fed):bookworm: How's his water intake? And fluid output?

Even trying the diet change, I am just suggesting a few days - no longer than a week.

The big appetite is a common symptom.

He has been on a new diet for 2 weeks now and that's what dropped his levels so drastically .. he was 476 when diagnosed . His water intake and urine went back to normal after the change of diet . Everything is back to normal now ...

Also I think the hunger could be just because he isnt happy about the switch to soft food . He really wants dry food. Hes eating 12 ounces of fancy feast a day which is actually below what he should be eating because the vet said he should lose 2 pounds
