Good Morning!

So 1u is confirmed too high based on Mowgli's reaction last night. I have ruled out my hypothesis that he was swooping low from his previous higher dosages. Back to 0.75u today - and Mowg is in a bounce :rolleyes:

I have a question about Mowgli's urine - Maybe it is better for the health forum but I will ask it here: Mowgli has definitely been peeing less, but it is still very sticky like he is still eliminating glucose from his body. I thought after a couple of months on insulin this would have somewhat diminished, is this still normal or should I be concerned?

In other litter news: Mowgli's poo is back to its normal self.

Poked my nose in (from work again ...shhh;)) so I can't see your SS, what you are asking about is renal threshold, my recollection from a previous post a while back is that on a pet meter that would be 200-250ish, so much less on a human meter. ECID just a little different, I find that with Mav, if he's getting into high 200s on AT2, he is peeing out excess sugar. It is very common to continue to have sticky pees with numbers like your AMPS of 319. The problem for me and Mav is we can get to nadirs under renal threshold, but then he bounces back up to high 300s, so he pees out that excess sugar. Not sure what nadirs you have been seeing on your meter with your kitty, but that is why many people here on the L&L work so hard to get into lower BG ranges, so that kitties stay under renal threshold as much as possible, which then prevents undue stress on the kidneys.

Mowgli's nadirs are typically around 100-130. Right now he is definitely in a bounce... 300s aren't really typical for him. I would say he probably spends most of his time in low to mid 200s though. Ugh! I'm a little nervous for his poor little kidneys.

Renal Threshold huh? another term to google... don't mind if I do :D
 
Regarding the glucose in the urine, the BG at when the bg is above 11 to 16 and above the urine will contain glucose. Mowgli's PSs have recent (generally) been above that so glucose in the urine is expected

Yes, you're right they definitely have been. Mowgli hasn't spent very much time at all below 11. And to be honest, since he moved in with me in March His pee has been the same, he has never left the glucose urine phase.

I wish his pancreas would get a clue and kick into gear. Or like... I could gain a little patience and realize this is a relay not a sprint.

Thanks for giving me the range in mmol/L it will stick in my memory much better. For now I will be cheering Mowgli's sluggish pancreas on to kick it into gear

Sorry, I guess the trouble with doing this from work is I'm a bit rushed to respond...I really shouldn't have focused so much on nadirs, it is moreso how much time over a cycle is spent above renal threshold. Yes, hearing that he spends most of his time in low to mid 200s would say his cutoff is lower than that for threshold. The idea really is to try and get consistent cycles where numbers are below. I try and give extra water with every feeding so that helps flush things out. The issue potentially is that among other things, the extra sugar can be a nice breeding ground for bacteria and can increase chances for UTIs.

That definitely makes sense! I definitely add as much water as Mowgli will tolerate into his food... I'm tricking him into thinking it's a gravy ;). I think that he is peeing enough that I don't need to worry too much about a UTI (I hope). I try to stay on top of the litter as much as possible to eliminate any kind of infection sources though.

I have to say: Glucose saturated urine is so gross, but much easier for me to scoop from the litter for some reason
