AMPS 270. Blood ketones: lo.

Lots of improvement this morning. Ketones are gone. No overnight vomit. He did throw up a little bit of fur right before I fed him but the whole puddle was about the size of a cracker. Appetite is real good, too good in fact. I was dumb and let him lick up the entire 80ml in about 15 minutes which he refunded about 5 minutes later, so I went back in with 40ml that he licked right up and I'm going to let that sit for about 1/2 hour then give him the other 40ml. Will give solid food a try for lunch. Hopefully today we'll see the BG come down and the weight come up.

300@+2.

Looking like we'll probably be seeing similar numbers today. So, unless we get a curveball, my plan right now will be to increase dose tomorrow AM. If he stays >200 I'll increase by .5, if he happens to dip < 200 I'll only do .25. And if he happens to get multiple < 200 readings then I'll hold off on the increase and see where things settle.

Depending on how blue he goes I think I would hold the dose the full 6 cycles, especially if ketones are gone, my best guess is that 2u is not enough, but with IAA in the picture, I've certainly seen kitties hold a 'Temporary' reduction. Insulin needs can move more quickly in IAA kitties. I wouldn't want to rush it and end up overdosed again and fighting those low numbers.

After all we are just on cycle 3, with a depleted depot and so far he's looking good, and feeling better.

223@+6. Got him eating solid food now for lunch. Weight is down slightly, still got some diarrhea but it seemed a little better, so the weight should pick back up as things get back to normal.

Having gone through IAA breaking in a kitty myself, caution is key. If you do increase tomorrow, make sure you hold the new dose at least six cycles. A skip followed by four cycles of the lower dose did nothing to stabilize the depot. I agree with Gill that if you see more that upper blue tonight, hold onto the dose at least one more cycle, maybe the full six.

Like you, I suspect it was too big a reduction, but I also think a 0.25 unit reduction would have been too little. With negative ketones, it’s a chance to sleep and regroup.

PMPS 247. Depending on the +/-20%, looks like PM cycle could go either way. I'll get a +3, +6, and +9 to see where he's at. If we hit blues, I'll hold for another 2 cycles. If we stay yellow, I'll increase to 2.5u in the morning.

Sounds like you have a plan. I would only add that if for some reason he's blue at amps, you may want to rethink and consider holding the dose.
