my Louie uses a 29 gauge, .3 ml, 1/2 in needle that I used to buy at Walgreens. Lately they haven’t had them, so I’ve had to order some online. Tonight I am completely out (yes, I’m a bad mom) so I stopped at Walgreens and the only ones they had even close were the BD safety lok (???), 29 gauge, 1/2 inch needle, but 1 ml. I have some bad ones I got at cvs recently that are also 1 ml. Both the new ones have a fatter syringe. I hate math. Is there a way to make one of these work? And that safety lok thing won’t come off bc I already broke one trying.

I've use Monoject syringes forever, 29 gauge, .5 ml, 1/2 inch needle. I've never once had a bad plunger seal or inaccurate markings. They can be hard to get but ask anyone whose tried them, they'll never go back. Although I always used a U40 insulin I used U100 syringes, easier for me to see the markings. I cannot ethically recommend you do this but there is a conversion table here somewhere, just triple check your math.

You can get them easy in the states from ADW.

I am no help trying to convert as the Lantus uses the u100 3/10. Safer (and less math) to get the right syringes if you can.

Now being Sunday can you ask an emergency vet open today if they have enough of the correct syringes until you get yours? ( even different needle gauge and length but the proper dosing (u100 3/10) I would bring some proof from your regular vet such as a receipt from the Lantus with your name on it to show your cat is on Lantus and you can’t currently find proper needles but have on order.

Or call around to other local pharmacies to see if they have them with half unit marks preferably, even a different gauge and length ( I use 30 or 31g with 5/16”) anything close to tide you over with the right dosing level (u100 3/10).

I did check Walmart in Austin online and didn’t have much luck:( not sure what else you have locally.

Or call all the Walgreens in the area and see if one of them may have them

I am sure you may have already tried some of this, just trying to help..

Good luck.

Maybe I am missing something here. If the old and the new syringes were both U-100, there should not be any math to do. They may look different because they hold different volumes, but the measurements should be the same - in other words 1 unit in the old should be the same as 1 unit in the new. Do they have 1/2 unit markings or just whole unit markings or what?

I'm not sure that the ReliOn syringes show in the Walmart online .. didn't show here when I checked that, which is why I went in, in person, but the pharmacist (not the people at the counter) at the consulting window, looked at what I was using and what I was looking for, and pulled out the ReliOn syringes -- 3/10, 31 gauge, 8 mm (5/16) U-100s ... might go over in person to see if they have stock that doesn't show online .. for me, was less expensive to buy here, even with sales tax, than ADW online with shipping costs -- luckily here we don't need a script though I've been told locally that they do evaluate to see if you are using syringes for "other than cat, dog, or medical necessity" -- since I already had catfood and test strips in my cart ....

He was comparing 3/10 vs 1 ml

Good point!

The 1 ml syringes are only marked in 2-unit increments. Thus, unless one have a high dose cat, the 1 ml syringes are not really suitable for cats.

Thanks for all your responses. I called around town and finally found some. I was just worried because the string was a lot thicker than mine and I wasn’t sure what marking to use. He only gets 1 unit, and I was just scared to chance it.
I ordered 100 online last week, so I’m going to do better at stocking up long before I run out!
