Relion Prime meter status?

I was considering getting a Relion Prime which they had at my local Walmart a few weeks ago, at least to have a backup meter. I think this is the one people were getting now since they got rid of the other model (Confirm). I have been hesitant to get a Relion meter because I really like the side wick strips for Alphatrack, easy to hold to cats ear while it is in my hand, getting a sample with meter perpendicular to cats head seems very counterintuitive to testing a cat.

Well now I looked at Walmart online and the Prime is out of stock and my local store does not have it either, all I see is Premier model..which of course costs twice as much as the Prime did. I hope they are not discontinuing another one..why does Walmart keep messing my life up?

The Premier strips are same price, so there is that.

Anyone heard anything?

Thanks.

the Walmart store here *Yelm WA* -- has them in stock, the store here tends to get some of the last of the warehoused items, but I was shocked to see your post, there were several on the shelf two days ago

Puzzled; when I got M'row's meter in January of this year, Walmart said to get ReLion Prime as some other Relion meter was going to be discontinued soon. Can you order a ReLion Prime online? Here (Minneapolis, Mn) they specifically said there were no plans to discontinue ReLion Prime.

it was the Confirm that was discontinued, and the actual manufacturer (Arkray) has also discontinued their own brand model that Walmart rebrands as the ReliOn Confirm --- supposedly the Prime was the replacement for it though that takes a larger blood sample to work properly

Maybe it is just a coincidence my local store and online are both out of stock at this time and only one they show now is Bluetooth and I have no use for that. Just seems to be a pattern that they keep getting rid of models. Will see if it comes available in the next few days, wanted to go to Walmart soon.

The Premier Voice is definnitely worth the extra $5, it has a lot of cool features, and requires the same amount of blood and the test strips are the same price and of course its the new line so less chance of it being discontinued.

Also...someone was recently saying that if the Prime times out while trying to get a sample you have to take the test strip out and put it back in? While wrangling a cat? lol I don't know I've never used a Prime but with the Premier all you have to do is hit the button again and you're good to go.

The Alphatrack and Freestyle are the same, have to take out strip and put back in. It’s never been an issue for me, the cat just sits and waits for me to take blood. That is a good feature though if they don’t like to sit still:) I am just so tired of spending so much money, even with the Freestyle strips which are half the price of Alphatrack, I end up wasting strips trying to make sure I am using the right “code.” If I was working it would not be such a big deal. But my money tree is dying, it’s only dropping small change these days, not nice green bills, lol. I may just get a FS meter, it is not any more than the Relion model available, since I have 2-3 months wort of FS strips and I would not have to batch test them to find the proper code like in the Alphatrack.

All good information to have since I'm using a ReliOn Prime myself. I hate Walmart, but my only local options at the moment are Walmart and RiteAid, and RiteAid costs 4 times more on just about everything, so that's a no-go. The Walmart has had problems stocking Prime meters and strips--I've been in there when there are NO strips at all. I wasn't out yet, but it was annoying as I have to go out of my way to go there. I'm planning to scout the meter/strip options at Meijer when the new one opens there later this month, esp. since sometimes I have trouble getting enough blood from Max's ear for the Prime.

I ordered the Agamatrix Presto from ADW today, I am sick of Walmart too, always out of something when I shop there, which is less and less.

The Agamatrix got very good reviews on accuracy and strips are cheap ($20 for 100). I got the starter kit with meter, 200 strips, extra lancet device, lancets, 10 extra strips and control solution for under $50, can’t beat that with a stick.

I am still going to keep my Alphatrack as a backup and to double check if I get a goofy reading, but I just can’t deal with the price of the strips anymore at $100 for 100 strips, even the FS strips are $50 for 100. So these others are $20 for 100, 1/5 the cost of AT strips.

The strips price you mention for agamatrix is roughly the same price we pay for prime strips here in Ohio. Sounds like they had a nice bundle deal!
