? Sammy dropped to 63 at 5.5

Could someone look at Sammy's spreadsheet? We've been back and forth between 1.75, 2.0, and 2.25 of Lantus trying to get him regulated. I am following SLGS. Today he dropped to 63 (human meter, we switched from AT a few months back) and I intervened with FF w'gravy food since he's not been this low before. (See the actual numbers in the comments column. since I tested more than hourly at this point.) He came back up and is doing fine. By the protocol he has earned a reduction and should go back to 2.0 tonight, right? My immediate question is, what shall I give him tonight? I am thinking 2.0 if he is over 250 at PS, but maybe 1.0 if less? The reason I am not going for tight regulation is that I can't always test this much, and frankly don't have the nerves for those low numbers. I can't drive and getting him to a vet in an emergency would be tricky. I'm on Pacific Daylight time. Thanks for any thoughts.
 
Sammy did earn a reduction. You did shoot a 238 on Tuesday. Maybe you can shoot 2.0 if he is around that number or higher. You have to shoot what you are comfortable with and be able to test tonight if needed.

Congrats on the reduction.

Since you have been doing this for over seven months now, and have some great test data, I think you should be working to lower your no shoot data. On SLGS, the no shoot number for experienced people is 90. Of course, they do work they way down to that. When you are able to monitor, I would try shooting some numbers in the high 100’s next. That is how you can gather data and see what happens when you shoot lower numbers. With Lantus, the cycles are typically a lot flatter when you shoot lower. Plus he will probably bounce tonight anyway.

For the record, SLGS is not a protocol, it is dosing method developed and used here before TR was created and published.

Thank you, I'll work on that! I do have more confidence lately and need to work on that plus intervening less quickly. Today when I saw what was happening I forced myself not to open the high carb food till we got down to 62-. Big girl pants, right?

Thanks again. I'll keep plugging along. Meanwhile, he is totally asymptomatic other than the bg scores. He was totally listless, skinny, and drinking/peeing like crazy when diagnosed. Today he's fluffy, no excess peeing/drinkung, and even the neuropathy is gone thanks to Zobaline. Happy cat.
 
I agree with @Wendy&Neko. Ideally, shooting the 219 and 180 should be safe. What I suggest is to give some thought to where you would be comfortable shooting. If you're concerned about shooting your next lower number, post -- there are plenty of people who will provide support. (Just mention that you're shooting lower in your subject line so people will know to stop by.)

Thanks, will be trying to shoot lower. I gave him a half dose last night though he was at 286 PS - went with my vet's guidelines for dosing after very low nadiirs just to be safe.
