Hello all, sort of weird yesterday...first thing Willow had a great appetite, but it deteriorated to spoon feeding fairly fast and she hid on and off through the day. She would have been due for mirtazapine (3 days) around 10:30pm. But we decided to try 100% Fancy Feast last night, instead of the combo Whole Earth Farm duck pate with weruva Meow Luao we fed to decrease phosphorus levels...and she horked her meals. Even in the middle of the night she ate them all by herself. And this morning she came on the bed, purring *loudly* which she hasn't done forever except for mirtz, and laid by us. And is eating her 100% FF by herself this morning (amps and +1 so far).
Yet her amps is high for her!!! Tested twice, don't understand. And she peed over the litterbox again overnight. Oh well, lol.
Not saying it's a cure-all, and she still seems like it bothers her to eat a bit (flicking food and turning her head)...but she's eating for now, without an appetite stimulant, so yay for that.

The best food for a kitty is the one they will eat! Fancy Feast for the win!
Any chance she needs a dental? When they turn their head when eating it's usually because they're trying to get the food to the other side of their mouth.

Hi, oh yes I think she needs a dental...but both vets she's seen at the local practice haven't suggested it, and when I do they go all reluctant because of her age. Which doesn't make me confident in their skills in a stressful situation. So I've contacted the Ottawa specialist I found, to see if they'll do it and when they could (and to see if I can afford them doing it) Otherwise we're headed home to Nova Scotia in May, and I'll check out the local vets there to see if they're any more confident/experienced. Thanks for asking!
ETA her molars have tartar, but her gums aren't inflamed at all, which is another reason I think the vets here seem reluctant, even though they push their digital photography etc on website. I think they prefer young, healthy cats lol.
 
I've seen many cats have bad reactions after dental procedures. My kitties teeth aren't great but I'm afraid to have them go under anesthesia at their age.
Stress can make everything worse.
Lots of people have dental on their cats without a problem I just am too concerned to take that chance.

I just can't track everyone these days. But I looked at Willow's spreadsheet, and Ravan's spreadsheet. Just when I thought I was doing everything - now I see SUPERHUMANS.

LOL infrequently, but you're one to talk!
I'm glad the mirtz is helping Leo; I've just started it with Willow as needed and definitely helps. I use the liquid and only give 0.16cc; I like being able to give a smaller dose if it works, and sometimes it's easier to get a liquid in Willow than a pill. I don't know that many use the liquid?

Thanks for the suggestion on the liquid mirtazipine. I'll ask our vet for some. The 1/8 mirtazipine pills are just so small, it's hard to deal with them.

- 9am-2am (or 3am) Jeff...except last night it was until 4am
