Help! I don’t know how much insulin I just gave

I was distracted when preparing the syringe and when I gave it to Tooters I didn’t look at it. It just seemed like a lot compared to normal. I usually fill to 1 - 1.5cc when prepping and the tap for air and squirt out extra til I have his .5cc dose. What should I do? should I test every hour for six hours?? Please help.
 
Did you test before giving the insulin? What was the result?

Yes, you need to test at least hourly until we know for sure that Tooters will be safe.

Do you have high carb food?

Also, did not see recent readings on spreadsheet. If you have blood glucose data available at least for any readings for the last day or so would be helpful for people to help you until you know your kitty is safe. Even if you just have them in the meter and can list them here that would help, time taken, ie AMPS, +6, etc. BG reading, dose given, etc.
 
I think I remember that you have a strange schedule and can't always shoot at exactly 12 hours, correct?

If that's the case, I just want to remind you that shooting early can act like a dose increase so you have to be careful about the overlap

For tonight, just grab a +1 and +2 and let's see how it goes since you're not sure what you gave.
 
If he dropped from 417 to 221 in 2 hours, you're definitely going to need to keep testing.

I'd test again at +3

How good of an eater is he? If you gave him a little food now (like a teaspoon or 2) are you pretty sure he'd eat again if you needed him to?

Recheck my spread sheet. I was fixing it and had some wrong numbers in it for awhile.
He has gone from 299 to 221 in 2 hours.

He has ate food since giving shot. He is free-food eater and has eaten a couple of times already.

I'm going to feed - using dry food that is higher carb

I think I need to continue to test... Agree??
 
You're in good hands with the others and I won't be online much longer, but a couple of quick questions come to mind:

1) What is the maximum amount of insulin you might have given? I'm talking worst case scenario. Would it be 1.5u? 3u? More?

2) Do you know where the closest 24x7 emergency animal clinic is located and how to get there? How long does it take to get there?

Overdosing Lantus can have longer duration than your normal dose -- sometimes 18 hours or so -- so it's important to be vigilant and keep testing.

Also, the time to figure out how to get to the nearest ER is not when you're under duress. Yep, know that one first hand. :-)

By the way, I'm not suggesting that it's time to head to the ER ... just that it's important to be prepared.
