Hello, Can some comment on these numbers? I was able to create a spread sheet but unable to now post to it. I'll work on that soon, but I thought it was important to get this out there now. I was able to manage a curve which is in yellow. Thank you.

Hi Richard, do you know how to add a question mark in your title? If you go to top right side of page when you pull up your post, you can select “thread” and can edit, select the blue question mark. It jumps out more, with so many posts I don’t want your post to get missed:) may get a quicker response that way.

I hate to ask this but could you please transfer the data to the spreadsheet in your signature. For those of us who read spreadsheets every time we open a thread, having the data in the format we all use will be extremely helpful. We really need the color coding and a date x time, multi-column format.

I too have a harder time with a different format. What I do see is only one day with some mid cycle tests, and no tests at night. We determine how to change the Lantus dose based on how low it takes the kitty. The Lantus curve means those lows are typically somewhere in the middle of the cycle. Plus many kitties go lower at night. So we need more visibility into what is happening during nights and mid cycles to see what the current dose is doing.

I also see you shot two hours early in the morning of April 2nd and 1.5 hours early on the 3rd. We find it best to give shots close to 12 hours apart, or at least within 1/2 hour if you can.

If I lived in a perfect world I could shoot perfectly at those times but I don’t. This is the best I’ll ever have. I work very long days including travel time. As for the spreadsheet I’m doing the best I can. These are the numbers I have. Morning and evening shots plus a curve (which was close to impossible to get) last Sunday which is in yellow. Numbers are numbers, I’ve given dates, times, both AM and PM , plus what the dosage is. I realize it’s not in your standard format but surely it’s not that hard to read. I will get it in the correct form soon but not right now. I thought getting it out here to help my cat was the greater concern. If you are unable to help I understand.

This data is a good start, but unfortunately I need just a bit more data. Is it possible to get a test just before you go to bed? Even a test 2 or 3 hours after the shot at night would be helpful. Or how about a test somewhere in the middle of the day cycle with the upcoming weekend? Safety is our first concern here. The numbers as is tell me one of two scenarios. It could be that this is not enough insulin and he needs an increase. The second scenario is that he is going lower either at night or during the day when you cannot test, and bouncing to high numbers as a result. This second scenario means one of two things, either he's not used to those lower numbers yet, or he's going to a low number that means this dose is too much insulin. Since he was on 4 units of Novolin, I suspect he may need to go higher, but we don't have any data from those 4 units so we can't be sure. I'd rather he be high for a day that low for a minute.

Hi Richard, I understand your frustration and that you are doing what you can. Taking care of a diabetic cat can almost feel like a full time job in itself. If you are working long hours on top of it and don’t have a lot of help it can be very hard and emotionally draining.

You already are doing a lot of things right by testing at home and keeping track. It will get better and people here do want to help.

Hang in there.
